I’m looking for ways to honor two dearly loved ladies in our life… I would like to find a way to honor one of them using [name]Diane[/name] or [name]Diana[/name], and honor the other lady using either [name]Joy[/name], [name]Joelle[/name], [name]Ellen[/name] (or some very similar variation of those names). Any ideas? Here are a few options I came up with. Please tell me what you think! [name]Do[/name] they sound like someone middle aged, or do they work on a baby/young child/teenage girl? [name]One[/name] other thing - we’re the type of couple who likes lots of nn/pet names. We don’t usually use just one nn all the time - depends on if we’re feeling silly, or sleepy, or happy, or playful, or just want an indearing pet name.
So how do these names strike you? Boring? Middle age? Dated? Familiar, but no longer common? Pleasantly surprising? And do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for any input you can offer!!
I would definitely classify [name]Diana[/name] as “pleasantly surprising”! While I usually don’t prefer the frillier version of a name, [name]Diana[/name] sounds fresh again, whereas [name]Diane[/name] is still a little middle-agey for me. It will age well, has root history and will be very very cute on a little girl!
My favourite combination is [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joy[/name] - I really, really like that. The meanings are wonderful, and the flow is perfect. What a womanly, beautiful and sweet choice.
My second favourite from your list is [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Diana[/name] - but I might flip is - [name]Diana[/name] [name]Ellen[/name]!
I actually really like [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joelle[/name]! I used to love [name]Diana[/name] years ago, but meeting one (who’s nice, but a bit overbearing, lol) has sort of changed my image of the name. But with the nn [name]Annie[/name], though, I love it so much more, and I love how much significance there is in the combo! I also really love the idea of [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Diana[/name], or even [name]Ella[/name] [name]Diane[/name], too. I think [name]Ella[/name] [name]Diane[/name] feels a bit more modern than [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Diana[/name], but [name]Ellen[/name] is classic and pretty enough that I’d love to meet a little [name]Ellen[/name]. I think any one of those three options would be great!
I’m a [name]Diana[/name] and it fit me all my life, so far, I’m only 21. In high school, I had a couple friends call me D and [name]Di[/name] for short, but very few, I am basically just known as [name]Diana[/name]. I have also been called [name]Diane[/name] on a few occasions where people are just plain lazy, I have also been called [name]Deana[/name], but mostly be foreigners who can’t say [name]Diana[/name].
It was actually awesome being a [name]Diana[/name] because I never met another person with my name. I was the only [name]Diana[/name] in my school, compared to the 6 [name]Sarah[/name]'s and 8 [name]Emily[/name]'s. It was nice to have my own name that I didn’t have to share. We once had 3 [name]Sarah[/name]'s, all there last names started with B, so our teacher actually had to call on them by last name otherwise they wouldn’t know who he was calling on. It seems rude, but he had no choice.
[name]Diana[/name] [name]Joy[/name] is my favorite of your combos
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!! I like the suggestion of [name]Ella[/name] [name]Diane[/name], but I don’t like how popular [name]Ella[/name] is. I’d prefer to use [name]Ella[/name] as a nn for [name]Ellen[/name]. Think my current favorite combos out of all this is [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joy[/name] or [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joelle[/name], with the nn [name]Annie[/name].
Does [name]Annie[/name] work for [name]Diana[/name], or only for [name]Diane[/name]? [name]Don[/name]'t care as much for the nn [name]Anna[/name].
I would be confused if a little girl named [name]Diane[/name] or [name]Diana[/name]'s nickname was [name]Annie[/name]… but your names seem nice. I’d vote for [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joy[/name]!
Another vote for [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joelle[/name]. If you want to use the nickname [name]Annie[/name], go with [name]Diana[/name]. There is no purpose in [name]Diane[/name] nn [name]Annie[/name]; the names are the same length.
[name]Diana[/name] and [name]Diane[/name] are both terrific. I’d go with [name]Diana[/name] [name]Elle[/name] if I were you, a sleek crop of [name]Ellen[/name].
[name]Diane[/name] sounds a bit old-ladyish to me, while both [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Ellen[/name] are delightfully fresh. I think [name]Annie[/name] would work fine as a nickname for [name]Diana[/name], just as well as it would work for “[name]Anna[/name]”-names like [name]Annabelle[/name]. [name]Diana[/name] does carry two strong images for me: [name]Princess[/name] [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Diana[/name] from [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables. Since both of these are positive, I think the name is perfectly usable. My favourite combos of yours are [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joy[/name] and [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Diana[/name].
Dianne with two n’s is prettier and makes more sense, pronunciation-wise, especially with the nickname Anne or Annie, and it feels fresh and newly modern again for our time…sort of pleasantly familiar, yet surprisingly uncommon at this point! So I vote for Dianne, with possible middle names Elenna or Jolie? I once knew a Joan Diane who went by Jodi, which was cute. (By the way, for an earlier poster, nicknames aren’t only supposed to be shorter versions of the real name; many of them are the same length or longer…think James/Jimmy, for example.)
I love [name]Diana[/name] [name]Joy[/name]! I’ve always liked [name]Diana[/name] because I look up to [name]Princess[/name] [name]Diana[/name]. I think [name]Annie[/name] [name]Jo[/name] and [name]Di[/name] are great nicknames. It would be very refreshing to hear meet a little [name]Diana[/name], very elegant and classy. And [name]Joy[/name] as a middle name just sends such a cheerful message.
