What's a troll?

I saw mention of someone being called a troll on this site. What does that mean?

also TTC, DS and all the other abbr. that come up?

sorry dh not ds

A troll is someone who posts random rubbish that isn’t on topic, or in the case of names forum it would be posting ridiculous names that are blatently made up and just seeking a response rather than genuinely seeking advice.

TTC is trying to conceive!

DH/DW/DS/DD would stand for dear husband, dear wife, dear son, dear daughter or I’ve seen somewhere that it could be darling husband etc.

troll = someone who purposely tries to stir up trouble on a forum
ttc = trying to conceive
ds = dearest son
ds = dearest husband

TTC: trying to conceive
DS/DH: darling/dear son, darling/dear husband
OH: other half
SO: significant other

Those are the most common abbreviations, I think. Oh, MN/FN/LN–middle name, first name, last name… I think those are fairly obvious, though.

A troll is someone who joins a site specifically to get attention… usually they post outlandish stories just to see what reaction they can get, or as is the case on here most often, outlandish names, or they’ll steal other people’s posts and repost them, or whatever. [name]Just[/name] fishy stuff that disrupts the flow of a generally lovely board. :frowning:

Ahh makes sense. Thank you

Some other abbreviations that get used a lot are NMS = Not my style and NN = Nickname

Thank you for asking about these and to all you regular folk for explaining them. It’s taken me a week or so to work them out and start using some myself… like [name]SIL[/name] which I hope means sister-in-law!
