I named my daughter [name]Maeve[/name] when she was born 15 months ago. It had been my favorite names for years, ever since my Australian Irish grandmother told me that she had strongly considered it for my mother’s name. I loved that it sounded simple and strong, and when I used it, it contained many sounds that people currently thought/think are pretty, similar to [name]Ava[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Mae[/name], etc but was also different and unexpected. The other thing it really had going for it for me was its meaning. I love that it’s the name of a legendary warrior queen, and when my daughter was born and immediately taken to the NICU to fight for her life, it seemed all the more appropriate. [name]Maeve[/name] the warrior queen was strong and clever, and I liked that. Also, it has ties to [name]Shakespeare[/name] and I tend to like literary names. [name]Maeve[/name] Binchy the author was my only other association and that seemed fine to me. Finally, its modern meaning (she who intoxicates) suggests someone who is powerful and charismatic. My little girl is a fighter, a true warrior queen and she makes everyone she meets fall in love with her. It fits her perfectly. I don’t know any other Maeves in the UK but I often get compliments on it. I understand it’s becoming a bit more popular in the US but last I checked it was somewhere in the 500s. [name]Hope[/name] this helps.
