What's the deal with Posy?

I know that [name]Posey[/name] is used for boys now and again, and I even have some friends who say they know a boy named [name]Posey[/name] in a local heavy metal band, so I guess those boys’ parents didn’t think it was too cutesy!

I knew a girl for three years in high school who was also named [name]Megan[/name], and senior year I found out her full legal first name is [name]Margaret[/name], her mother used it to get [name]Megan[/name] during a time when [name]Megan[/name] was very popular (#12 the year we were born). She kept that fact tightly under wraps because people would outright accuse her of lying because no one around here had heard of the connection. Maybe my disconnect with these nicknames has to do with where I live, these nn’s have been used as real names for a long time and now no one remembers the connections! I think naming trends vary from area to area, because there are some lovely names out there that I don’t hear around here because they sound silly with a [name]Texas[/name] accent. My parents debated naming me Clessie instead, a popular nn turned name around here that many people have never heard of!!

I have a feeling I will be safe using [name]Posy[/name] by itself here and not having it confused as a nn for [name]Josephine[/name] because no one I know would make the connection.
