I’m on the home stretch with baby [name]Gigi[/name] (due in april) and have pretty much settled on [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name]…sorry girls that loathe [name]Ginger[/name].
Anyway, the one name I love and would have wanted to use is my grandmothers name [name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]. Some of you have suggested 3 names, i.e…[name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Grace[/name], etc…
I’m considering that but don’t know anyone personally with 3 names and am worried that it will be tricky for her.
Some of my questions are:
What would be her monogram for towels, etc…
Would I put all 3 given names on registration forms. [name]How[/name] does that work and does it get clunky?
There seems to be a lot of people on NB that are doing this just curious of how you go about life with 4 names, including Last Name.
Hey there. I’m glad you’ve nearly made up your mind. Although not my favourite, I think [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is sweet.
I have 2 middle names and to be honest I’ve never had any problems with it. When there is room on forms I put both, when there isn’t I put either the first, or just the two initials.
As for monogrammed things… well I’ve never really had anything haha. If I have to initial anything I just put my first and last.
I’ve never had any problems with having two middles. I quite like it, actually, it’s interesting. My first middle name is a first name, and my second is one of my parent’s last names (rather than a hypenated last name). I also intend to continue this trend with my future children.
I like the idea of having a second middle name to honour family. I think I suggested in a previous thread of yours [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louise[/name]/a [name]Grace[/name] and I still like it. I prefer [name]Louisa[/name] because it gives a more pleasing flow to the name because it is a little longer than [name]Ginger[/name]. I think if you like it then you should do it, believe me, it won’t cause your daughter any harm. However, if you’re not comfortable with her having two middles, don’t force yourself to do it
I gave my son two middle names because it was very important to me to honor both sides of our family with his name, but we wanted to choose a first name that we just loved. He’s not quite a year old but so far there haven’t been any issues. If there is the option to put both middles on a form I put them, if not, I just put the first. We don’t have anything monogrammed, but I hear that is very big in the south. If I lived in the south I’m not sure what I would do about it, I suppose I would just use the first initial, or the one I prefered (my son is DDRB, so maybe since there are two Ds I would do DRB… I’m really not sure). I personally feel that his name wouldn’t feel complete with only one middle, but I think that’s only because he has two. I never thought I would consider two because I thought it was a little pretentious, but now I completely love it. I think [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is really fantastic and I like it a lot more than [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (which I like, too, by the way!). I think [name]Louisa[/name] in there adds a whole 'nother dimension to it.
To answer your initial question, I have no idea what the point of two middle names is! I only have the one, so I’m biased. I know one girl who has a “real” middle name and her mother’s maiden name, so her name is something like [name]Jaden[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] Duchek [name]Madden[/name] - that isn’t her real name, just something vaguely similar in sound. I think that sometimes people feel a name, for whatever reason, doesn’t feel complete with just the one middle name, or maybe they want to honor someone or something with a certain name. Maybe [name]Henry[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] Meyers sounds a bit bland, so parents spice it up with [name]Henry[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Lennox[/name] Meyers. Maybe Grandma [name]Helen[/name] passed just before the [name]Baby[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]'s birth, so her parents honor Grandma’s memory by naming their daughter [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Helen[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Franklin[/name]. Or, maybe mom’s favorite color is blue, so she names her daughter [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Blue[/name] [name]Reynolds[/name]. Anything goes in today’s naming world!
Now, with [name]Baby[/name] [name]Gigi[/name], I would actually do something like [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Louise[/name] rather than [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Grace[/name] - keeping the G names close seems better to me.
As for monogramming, I am a huge fan of it myself! I have a monogrammed tote bag, a monogrammed throw, monogrammed luggage tags, a monogrammed key fob, and have gone through many a monogrammed backpack in my years in school - I’m a bit of a prepster! But, I always use LME, as my name is [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Elyse[/name] [name]Miller[/name]. With [name]Baby[/name] [name]Gigi[/name], there are a plethora of options if you know where to look, so I am posting a link for your perusal.
I particularly am in love with #6 - if you can get a towel like this, you are good to go! But, if you can’t find a company to do it, then go with the straight four initials - that is what my friend did back in the day…
Or, just go with G! My sister, [name]Sarah[/name], has monogrammed towels with a big S in the middle - they are gorgeous. I found some very preppy - and utterly adorable - baby blankets with single initial monogramming available, and I can only say I hope they are still around when I am having children! Take a look…
If you are looking to splurge on Miss [name]Gigi[/name], then look no further than the most amazing baby blankets I’ve ever laid my eyes on, complete with a full name monogram! For your little one, why not monogram her blanket with her fun, sassy nickname? [name]GIGI[/name] would look adorable on these - I’m particularly loving on the sweet little [name]Wild[/name] Things blanket personalized with “Lyerly” on the website (now, what what THAT parent thinking?)…
As for towels, I found some really great ones at this website. They have a huge single initial applique (G) - you can either leave it at that, or opt to have a name written across the front of the initial! For this, I would use either [name]Gigi[/name] or [name]Ginger[/name] - either is great, but if you call her [name]Gigi[/name], go with [name]Gigi[/name]. If you want it more “formal,” go with [name]Ginger[/name]. (Maybe you can even email her and ask for a smaller font with [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Louise[/name]?) These are absolutely beautiful, and they start at just $25! Her stuff is so cute I almost want to place an order - I wish they listed the fabrics online! You must look:
If you can, I’d register your [name]Gigi[/name] with all of her names. When she is registered for daycare, school, anything, I think it is best to use the full, formal name. If you can’t fit it, just use [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name].
Good luck, Bonnet! Let me know if you need anymore fun monogram ideas!
Like another person said above, I have two middle names and I have never had a problem with it. Actually, I love having two and plan on giving my children two when I have them.
On forms, sometimes I can fit my full name, sometimes I only use the one middle name, sometimes I use just my middle initials. It really depends how much space there is because my first and last names are also kind of long. As for monogrammed things - I never had any so I can’t really help you with that one. I can’t see why you wouldn’t be able to use four initials though. I don’t know.
But yeah, I don’t see anything wrong with giving your child two middle names. I don’t think there’s any more of a point to it than giving your child only one middle name, or giving your child no middle name. It’s all personal preference.

[name]Lemon[/name],
You’re a star! I can’t wait to look at these sites. Monogramming is a guilty little pleasure of mine and I am def a prepster too! I have a step-son and son (both 8) and they get sick of me wanting to monogram stuff. I had their backpacks and lunch boxes done for 2nd grade this year and they were sort of over it.
[name]Ralph[/name] (as in [name]Lauren[/name]) has the best towels ever and they show you what the monogramms would look like with the actual colors so i’ve been playing around on their site which posed the question. I have also thought about going with “gigi” in lower case which is what we plan on calling her anyway.
i also love your suggestion of ginger grace louise. that is really really great and i know your not a fan of the ginger. but oh well! we love it and at some point you have to just put a stake in the ground. i was a dancer and always loved ginger rogers and she is from fort worth, tx near where i live so i bought the most beautiful pic of her to put in gigi’s shabby chic room! blah, blah, blah.
thanks again for your suggestions and i am starting to feel this all come together!
I willingly gave myself 2 middle names when I got married. I wanted to take my husband’s name, but I didn’t want to give up my maiden name completely, and I didn’t like the idea of hyphenating. I made my maiden name a second middle name. Honestly, I find it to be a pain in the butt and, had I known ahead of time what a hassle it would be, I probably wouldn’t have done it. I was told at the time by a friend who gave all his kids something like 3 middle names that it was no big deal. I should have asked how many middle names he has personally.
As far as monogramming, every thing I’ve gotten monogrammed has only allowed 3 initials. Leaving out one of my middle initials results in 3 initials that don’t mean anything to me, so I’ve just gone with my first and last initials. I don’t get a ton monogrammed though, and different places will allow different number of characters. If I could get all 4 initials, I definitely would.
As far as forms and stuff go, it has just added confusion for me. Whenever I tell people my middle names, I always have to explain. Yes, I could just avoid all this by just using one middle name on a day-to-day basis, but the whole reason I added the second was because I wanted it to be a part of my name. I know on my drivers license, the program they use doesn’t allow more than 3 names, so they had to hyphenate my middle names. Other places have ended up using just my first middle name. Others have used just my second middle name. Some think I have two last names. Some get the order of my names wrong. [name]Even[/name] when I fill out the forms myself, there’s no telling what variation of my name I’ll actually end up with on record. You should see the list of aliases that comes up when I pull my credit report.
I see there are other people who say they have no trouble with their long name, so obviously every experience is different. I just thought I would share mine. But speaking as somebody who has experienced having both 3 names and 4 names, 3 names is way way less bother. I definitely do not plan on giving my baby 4 names.
That being said, it’s hardly a huge problem in the grand scheme of things. If you fall in love with 4 names for your baby, go for it.
Firstly, I adore [name]Ginger[/name], and [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name], and [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louise[/name]/a [name]Grace[/name]! I am so, so, so glad you decided to go with [name]Ginger[/name]. [name]Gigi[/name] is an adorable, quirky nn, too.
As for having two middle names, it is very common where I live ([name]England[/name]), and I am in fact more surprised when I meet someone with only one middle name.
The point of two middle names is :
To use more names that you like.
To be able to honour more people, or to honour someone while also being able to use the names which you love.
Family tradition.
In many ways, I actually think this question is no different from asking what the point of having any middle name is - to honour people, and to use more names which you like. No-one goes around saying, “This is my daughter, [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Grace[/name]”, so the number of middle names really doesn’t make a difference.
With regards to monogramming, personally I would just get G and your surname initial, as I feel that two initials looks nicer than more, whether you have one middle name or ten. Anything that I have monogrammed is [name]WM[/name], rather than WACM.
As none of your name choices are massively long, I wouldn’t worry about fitting names on forms and such. There is almost always room for both of my middle names; certainly I have never had any problems on goverment or very official documentation, and on other, non-official forms, where they occasionally do not provide very much room, I just use my first name and surname. I have never known it to be a problem for my close friend who has three middle names, either. In fact, when I was at school, one girl had five middle names, and all of them were on her state examination forms.
The items you had done for your eight-year-old boys sound adorable - too bad they no longer appreciate them! But, my brother thinks monogramming is silly, too.
I have never had [name]Ralph[/name] [name]Lauren[/name] towels, but I’m sure they are superb! I went on the site, but it wouldn’t let me do a monogram practice - do they allow four initials?
I can’t wait for you to check out those sites. I know you like RL towels, but these applique ones are adorable! Really, almost too good to pass up!
As for her shabby chic room, I am picturing a purple color on the walls with dark wood furniture and glitzy little accents. Could be totally off with that, but who cares! Sounds so cute. And, I know I wasn’t a [name]Ginger[/name] fan - am not a [name]Ginger[/name] fan - but if you love it and it has meaning to you, I am more than happy! And, I do love [name]Gigi[/name]…
I suppose I’m in the minority. I’m not a fan of two middle names. On a post there was a proverb saying that the more names a baby has, the more loved it is. To me, it just looks like you couldn’t make up your mind. Also, I think the specialness of being honored with a namesake is diminished. It looks like you just tacked the name on along with the names you really liked. Finally, I can’t imagine it not being a pain in the butt with forms. You never use middle names except in formal situations, like filling out forms, so why make it so you can’t even use a whole name?
There are things I like about two middle names. When a person has two middle names, they have two back-up names in case they don’t like their first name.
But I love the rhythm of three names - first, middle, and last. Three is a great number.
If many of the people in my family had two middle names, I would be much more inclined to bestow multiple middle names upon my children and pets.
[name]Daisy[/name]: [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is really sweet. [name]Ginger[/name] louise [name]Grace[/name] sounds just as good. i have 2 middle names, because my mother said it was for individgal (cnt spell soz), so there would eb less chance of ANYONE havign the same name as moi. my mother has 3 middles names- (forbidden to tel first name) [name]Yvette[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Gillian[/name]. alos known as ‘[name]GiGi[/name]’ lol.
[name]Dylan[/name]: [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Grace[/name] has got more originality to it, and there is less chance of another person wiv that name, but ginger grace is still beautiful. im 14 i cnt answer the rest sozzie.
Well, I think having 2 or 3 middle names would be fine. There are several reasons you would pick any middle name, and I think having more than one is totally okay as long as, as a whole name, it would have flow and wouldn’t be excessively long.
I have 2 middle names and I’ve never had a problem with them. There are some times, like on my health card, when there’s only enough room for one middle initial, but most of the time it’s not like that.
My name isn’t as long as my sister’s ([name]Francesca[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ileana[/name]), when filling out forms & stuff there’s never enough room for her name lol.
