What's wrong with Myrna?

I don’t understand?

I’ve been liking [name]Myrna[/name] lately but I think it may be an acquired taste. It could be the “MUR” which isn’t attractive to a lot of parents who are in love with certain sounds that are currently popular (ay’s, ee’s, en’s, on’s, lyn’s etc…). [name]Just[/name] like [name]Bertha[/name] and [name]Muriel[/name], [name]Myrna[/name] has an old fashioned sound that doesn’t have mainstream appeal. It’s from another era but that’s probably why I like it

Modern parents won’t like it because it doesn’t have any of the sounds that are currently popular, like [name]Mischa[/name] said. There’s no “ell” or “ee” sound in it.

I was just watching Dogs 101 and there was a lady in [name]Israel[/name] named [name]Myrna[/name]. I’d never heard it before.

My advice: if you have to ask, it’s probably a no.

Though vintage names are currently making a comeback (ex. [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], and [name]Cordelia[/name]), [name]Myrna[/name] is a lot like [name]Bertha[/name]. By definition, [name]Bertha[/name] should be “in”. It’s vintage, afterall. But it’s not. [name]Myrna[/name] is a lot like this. I think it has to do mainly with the hard “mur” sound that is so foreign to today’s naming generation. I’m not saying [name]Myrna[/name] isn’t going to be unique, I’m just saying it might not be the best choice for a first name if you’re looking for something different yet conventionally pretty.

I like it, [name]Myrna[/name] [name]Loy[/name] was a great actress and good namesake.

I like [name]Myrna[/name], but, like others have said, the sounds in it seem to come across as unappealing and out of date to the average ear. It’s one of those names that’s nice in a vacuum but would be hard for a person to wear in actuality. I like [name]Muriel[/name] a lot as well (and [name]Myrtle[/name]), but I wouldn’t give any of them to a child because, as much as I like them, they just wouldn’t be easy to wear.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the name and I actually quite like it. If you like it you should use it. All of the trendy names people are using now will eventually go out of style anyway.

It sounds dated in my opinion

I think the name [name]Myrna[/name] sounds dated. It’s also a harsh sound on the ears.

I actually went to school with a [name]Myrna[/name] (spelt [name]Mirna[/name]) and as I am currently being under 20, I guess I don’t see it as an old and dated name. This girl also pronounced it both mur-na and meer-na, which might be slightly more pleasing to some. Plus, I absolutely adore [name]Myrna[/name] [name]Loy[/name]. And plus, there was once a time when current popular names seemed strange to most peoples ears and now they are common place.

Come to think of it, I don’t like any names with the long ‘-ir’ sound (surely that can’t be right, though?!)

[name]Bertha[/name], [name]Gertrude[/name], [name]Shirley[/name], [name]Myrtle[/name]…nup, all unattractive.
