I didn’t see a thread like this for the boys in the first few pages, so here it is. What’s your favorite boy’s name and why?
I’m not sure I really have one, but I have a top 10 that are all equally tied.
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Connor[/name_m]
I’ve loved all of these equally from childhood, so they’re all sort of tied for first place (I suck at picking favourites!)
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]! I don’t know why, I’ve pretty much always liked it!
Oh my, tough question! [name_f]My[/name_f] number one changes weekly but for the last several months I’ve been very stuck on [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], and [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u].
My favorite is a tie between Samuel and Edward. I would regret not using Edward more so than Samuel, so perhaps Edward is my favorite. It depends on the day, really.
Samuel feels so warm and friendly, the nickname Sam even more so. Samuel is timeless, easygoing, and versatile. I’ve had so many dreams where I have a blond toddler named Sam, so in a way I almost feel like it’s meant to be. I like that Samuel has Biblical/Hebrew roots. The meaning “God has heard” has personal significance, and I love the associations with Sam Gamgee, Sam Tarly, and Sam Winchester. Samuel is a pretty soft yellow and reminds me of cool dawns in the country, the sound of wind chimes in a gentle breeze, dew in the grass, and the smell of maple syrup and old books.
As for Edward, Edwards is my grandmother’s maiden name, and I’ve always had a special connection to that side of my family. Edward is a timeless, versatile, stately classic that’s been neglected far too long. It feels intelligent with an air of mystery about it and comes with an abundance of literary and historical namesakes. I like the nickname Ned because of Ned Stark. Edward is a deep chestnut color and brings to mind a quirky professor type in a library like you might find in an old English manor. I have such a vivid picture of what this Edward is like; it’s just so perfect to me.
[name_u]James[/name_u]
It is my dad’s middle name. It is strong and classic.
[name_f]My[/name_f] longest love affair is with the name [name_m]Viggo[/name_m]. It’s strong yet soft and I only have positive associations with it, and I’ve loved it since I was 10. Unfortunately I’m not the only one loving it since it’s quite popular in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] (just like other long time loves [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f]). I haven’t managed to find a substitute yet:(
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] I’ve loved since I was about eight and can’t imagine calling my sons anything else!
[name_f]My[/name_f] sons name, [name_m]Warren[/name_m]. I like the association with wild rabbits and that strongly influences my imagine of the name as wild and free, but also warm, gentle and cozy.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is my other favorite mostly for [name_m]Tom[/name_m]. To me he is very intelligent, can seem serious, but has a very mischievous side.
I have a tie between Grover and James.
Grover is:
- Spunk and cheer
- Fresh green leaves, a birch grove (my childhood memories)
- The funny satyr from the Percy Jackson
James is: - A very special name to me and a name of a very special person
- Versatile as it is
- Nearly as many culture and history use as possible
They are so different that I can’t decide. I have got a plenty of other favorite names but they are not so time-proven.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]. I’ve always really liked the sound. It has a international and exotic feel to it, without it being to foreign or strange. It has family connections (so I can honor without using his actual name). Honestly, I can’t find anything wrong with [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m].
Had to smile at your answer [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. We are due at the end of the summer and these are our current top choices for a boy.
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f]
[name_m]Darrow[/name_m]
If I were willing to use a religious name, i do love the sound of Castiel
I really like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. It’s enough to stand on its own, it’s cheeky and it is easy to pair with middles. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite before that was [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and it still is, but my sister named her son [name_u]Noah[/name_u] 3 months ago so that is now off the list.
I also really like [name_m]Myles[/name_m], [name_u]Ashton[/name_u], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Maddox[/name_m].
I just had to do both [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]. I couldn’t only do one.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is adventurous, energetic, and daring. He loves to be outside, run around, and play pretend, and he’s very good at getting into trouble, but even better at getting out of it. He’s very friendly, and likes to make sure everyone’s included and having fun.
Books, reading and characters are very important to me, and the Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] in particular bring back some good memories and add an element of magic, and once I started the literary theme, I just couldn’t leave it. I love the combo so much, and I think it’s really handsome, and the flow is perfect. The link to the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Sea also has a calm, and peaceful image.

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] is quiet, contemplative, and observant. He likes to think things through carefully and pays attention to detail. He may come across as a bit shy, but he’ll always be willing to help others out.
I love the mythological link with [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], which is so beautiful and intriguing. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] also has loads of namesakes important to me, and the connection to [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and the Arthurian legends, which both my mum and I have been interested in. [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] is also a nod to my parents’ (and my own) love for maths, because of [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] [name_m]Pascal[/name_m], and of course it’s a great name in general.

[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] is my all time favorite. I have recently fallen in love with [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_u]Glen[/name_u] ([name_u]Glen[/name_u] is an honor name) or [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I would love to have a little [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] some day. I’m trying not to get too attached to [name_u]Avery[/name_u] though because unfortunately I’m pretty sure my SO would nix that immediately
It’s between [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_m]Piers[/name_m] [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_u]Finley[/name_u] is special for the feelings it gives us. [name_m]Piers[/name_m] means “rock” or “stone” and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] means “land of the lochs” We both grew up in a city that has river and rock in the name. Are parents and grandparents grew-up either in that city or the neighboring city. Our son was born there and had his early childhood there. Lots of memories were made there. That city will always hold a special place in our hearts.
[name_m]George[/name_m], it’s a versatile solid male name with some history and I smile every time I see the name or hear it out loud
[name_m]Travis[/name_m] and [name_m]Angus[/name_m] are my favorites. They both have a cool-without-trying, laid-back, tough guy vibe. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I agreed pretty readily upon [name_m]Travis[/name_m] for our first born, and now we are thrilled to have agreed upon [name_m]Angus[/name_m] for a future son. We also really like [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], and if we are blessed with a third boy, he will probably be a [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]. I wish girl’s names were so easy for us!
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. It kind of crept up on me. I never expected to love it, let alone love it enough to plan on using it for a son someday. [name_f]My[/name_f] soon-to-be husband loves it too, which also surprises me.
I love [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]'s meaning. I love that it was my great-grandfather’s name. I love that it’s a name with a long history. And I think [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] on a little boy is irresistible. It strikes me simultaneously as both strong and serene, manly and gentle.
If I’m lucky enough to have a son, I think I’d like to call him [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Keith[/name_m].
