I’m really loving the nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u]/[name_m]Beau[/name_m] lately (especially [name_u]Bo[/name_u]! I’ve recently discovered it has Scandinavian roots, as well?), and I’ve had [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] nn [name_m]Beau[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u] on my list for a while now, but I never seem to be able to come up with a combo I genuinely like, so I’m putting it aside for a moment to search for another full name for [name_u]Bo[/name_u] ([name_m]Beau[/name_m]?) I could really get behind. What’s your favorite way to get to [name_m]Beau[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u]? Beauregarde, etc., aren’t my style at all, so besides that and [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], are there any other “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]” names?
(And @southernmaple, I know just what you’ll say about [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and it being a nn for just about everything, but I’m not sure I feel that way? I’m just not sure it’s one of those nicknames. Not for me, anyway. I do love the idea that you’ve suggested in the past, [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u], but I’m not sure it’d really catch on?)
Um, you don’t like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] or [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m], do you? I’m trying to think of names with “ob” or “bo” in them… What about [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]? [name_m]Bode[/name_m]? [name_m]Broderick[/name_m]? [name_m]Bolan[/name_m]? You could always do BO_ for the initials too. I really have no idea.
[name_m]Beau[/name_m] is so handsome (literally) that I prefer it as a stand alone name.
Never cared for [name_u]Bo[/name_u], but it could be a nn for [name_m]Boyce[/name_m], [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m], or [name_m]Bolivar[/name_m]. Archery related names will get you [name_m]Bow[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u]: [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] and Bowyer (for a stretch: [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u])
I saw someone once suggest that you could use [name_u]Bo[/name_u] as a nn for [name_m]Robert[/name_m]-- I thought it might be a bit of stretch, but I liked the idea of it.
I also have a friend whose brother’s name is [name_m]Brian[/name_m], but they call him [name_u]Bo[/name_u]-- so I wonder if it just could work for any “B” name…
I love [name_u]Bo[/name_u] as a nickname and [name_m]Beau[/name_m] as a full name
[name_u]Bo[/name_u] is scandinavian name, but here in Denmark (or at least with people I know) it’s used like a teasing name along with [name_m]Bob[/name_m]. Also [name_u]Bo[/name_u] means living (like living in a house), which might make it real odd to be name, when you’re from Denmark. Of course we do have people of older age named this, so I think you’d be able to pull it off. A joke I know about the name is:
“Well… if I ever had a boy, I’ll name him [name_u]Bo[/name_u], because then I cannot be angry with him, as the name is just too funny.”
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] - that’s good to know–thanks! I just saw on BtN that it had some Scandinavian roots (from the word bui, I think it said?). It just appealed to me more, thinking it had an international appeal. I really doubt [name_m]Beau[/name_m] would be used in [name_f]France[/name_f], either, but I think it’s cool to have several ties to other cultures.
@kristinjade - meh. I feel like I should think that was a brilliant suggestion, but [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is altogether pretty boring for me. It’s a pretty popular family name for me, and the little [name_m]Robert[/name_m] I know doesn’t make me like the name too much. I don’t think people would easily see that [name_m]Robert[/name_m] = [name_u]Bo[/name_u], either…
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - meh. Not really. The [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m] in the Bible wasn’t so great of a character. I like [name_m]Tobin[/name_m], but something about [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m] rub me the wrong way. And I’d always thought I would use [name_u]Toby[/name_u] for [name_m]Tobin[/name_m], not [name_u]Bo[/name_u], although I suppose I could use both? The BO_ idea should work, in theory, but I never seem to be able to embrace it. Before I loved [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], I had considered [name_u]Seth[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u], but it just didn’t seem right enough, somehow. idk. Something like [name_u]Bryn[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] would be fun, and I’d have an excuse to my beloved Welsh [name_u]Bryn[/name_u]! (Or I could just opt for [name_u]Bo[/name_u] as a sometimes nn for [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] that is already on my list. Hmm.) I like [name_m]Broderick[/name_m], but I’ve been thinking about using it as a full name for [name_m]Brody[/name_m] lately, and that would give me the same dilemma that [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] does with [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_u]Bo[/name_u].
Southern maple mentioned [name_m]Broderick[/name_m], which was my first thought, if [name_m]Beauregard[/name_m] isn’t quite your style.
[name_m]Broderick[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_m]Brody[/name_m]
[name_m]Brock[/name_m]
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], although this doesn’t seem like your cup of tea
[name_f]Brighton[/name_f]
[name_m]Brendon[/name_m] or [name_m]Brandon[/name_m]
[name_m]Bretton[/name_m]
[name_m]Brockton[/name_m]
[name_m]Bohan[/name_m]
[name_m]Boden[/name_m]
[name_m]Borden[/name_m]
[name_m]Bowie[/name_m]
[name_m]Bourne[/name_m], [name_m]Brando[/name_m], Brodney, [name_m]Braxton[/name_m], [name_m]Branton[/name_m], [name_m]Bromley[/name_m]
[name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] or [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
In all honesty, I think any name beginning with B can work as a long form for [name_u]Bo[/name_u]/[name_m]Beau[/name_m]. [name_m]Beau[/name_m] means handsome so I think it will work as a lovely nickname. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] or even [name_m]Bastien[/name_m] nn [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. That is just my opinion as I am not particularly fond of [name_m]Beauregard[/name_m] or Beaumont etc…
I like [name_m]Beau[/name_m] as a name on it’s own
Here’s names you can get [name_m]Beau[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u] from:
[name_m]Beauchamp[/name_m]
Beauford
Beaumont
[name_m]Beauregard[/name_m]
[name_u]Abbott[/name_u]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] – because you already have it and I think it works fine with you and your sibsets
[name_m]Bode[/name_m]
[name_m]Boden[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
Bodil
Bohumir
Bold
Boleslav
[name_m]Bolton[/name_m]
Bomani
Bonamy
Bonaro
Bonfilio
[name_m]Boniface[/name_m]
Bonito
[name_m]Booker[/name_m]
[name_m]Boone[/name_m]
Boreas
[name_m]Boris[/name_m]
Boromir
[name_m]Bowen[/name_m]
Carbonell
Celeborn
[name_m]Ichabod[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] – jah-coh-bee
Joban – joe-ban
[name_m]Noble[/name_m]
Obadele
[name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] – it gets [name_m]Bob[/name_m] so there’s no reason it can’t get [name_u]Bo[/name_u]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] – same reasoning as up there
[name_m]Tobin[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Zenobio[/name_m]
@dantea! [name_u]Abbott[/name_u]! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that–I’ve loved [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] for years! I definitely am keeping [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] as an option, but if it doesn’t work out, I think [name_u]Abbott[/name_u]'s my [name_m]Beau[/name_m]/[name_u]Bo[/name_u] replacement! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think I could still spell it [name_m]Beau[/name_m]? I thought I was liking the [name_u]Bo[/name_u] spelling, but I think in all honesty that [name_m]Beau[/name_m] is still my favorite spelling. [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] doesn’t really have the [name_m]BOE[/name_m] sound, so is it too much of a stretch to jump from [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] to [name_m]Beau[/name_m] straightaway?
I don’t think it is. We don’t go around spelling our nicknames to people. When people hear BOH they might think [name_u]Bo[/name_u] or [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. [name_u]Abbott[/name_u] has a sort of slant rhyme with BOH so I think it works and you can spell it however you like because it’s likely no one will know how it’s spelled.
