Abijah - this feels feminine to me now because of Abi and the jah ending
Adonijah - same as above, Adi!
Abner - this reminds me of Bewitched!
Bartholomew - this one’s not bad and more mainstream imo, Oli, Arty, Romy,
Hiram - again, I’ve heard this around with older men, Rami
Hosea - this feels like a less usable version of Jonah, Joash, etc.
Jethro - definitely recognizable, but seems hickish because of Beverly Hillbillies
Jotham - Joe, Jot, Tam, this one is a jewel I think. I like it!
Lemuel - this seems like a good middle name option, sorta like Leander and Samuel
Micajah - I actually kinda like this for a girl, it has the same feel as Michaela
Some more obscure Biblical ones I like: Aithan, Asaph (Ace), Benaiah, Dathan, Elkanah, Eytan, Gilead, Jairus, Nekoda, Zadok
I love [name]Hiram[/name]! I can’t even remember the Biblical namesake atm, but there was a very cool man in my denomination’s history whose fn was [name]Hiram[/name], and I always think of him, I just think it’s so quirky and cool. I love it as a MN, too–I keep coming back to [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Hiram[/name], although I’m sure it’d work for a lot of FNs.
I also quite like [name]Hosea[/name], [name]Lemuel[/name] (although I like [name]Samuel[/name] more), and [name]Jethro[/name]. My favorite obscure Biblical name is [name]Jabez[/name], but it does seem a bit cheesy to use.
I see [name]Abner[/name] has the edge right now! I like [name]Abner[/name], too–in fact, I think any and all of these would make awesome middle names. As you know, I love [name]Jotham[/name], and I chose [name]Adonijah[/name] and [name]Bartholomew[/name] as my second two because I tend to like long, obscure, more complicated names in the middle. If I was choosing first names, I’d probably pick [name]Abner[/name], [name]Hosea[/name] and [name]Jethro[/name] before [name]Adonijah[/name].
Another obscure Biblical choice I like: Jezreel!
This has been very interesting. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a poll like this, but I am rather surprised to see [name]Jethro[/name] leading the pack! The top five are, respectively, [name]Jethro[/name], [name]Abner[/name], [name]Bartholomew[/name], [name]Hiram[/name], and [name]Lemuel[/name]. Sounds like a quintet of country boys from the 1800s to me.
I voted for [name]Jethro[/name] and [name]Hosea[/name]. I love [name]Jethro[/name]! It has the nns [name]Jett[/name] and [name]Roe[/name] which I love, and I like the character from the Bible. [name]Hosea[/name] is actually fairly popular with the hispanic population around me, so I hear it from time to time. The other Bible names I love are [name]Phinehas[/name], [name]Boaz[/name], [name]Adriel[/name], [name]Azariah[/name], and [name]Jael[/name] (though this would be more for a girl since the [name]Jael[/name] from the Bible is a woman). I worry that [name]Adriel[/name] and [name]Azariah[/name] would be seen as too feminine, and I don’t know how usable [name]Phinehas[/name] and [name]Boaz[/name] are. I have considered [name]Jael[/name] as a middle name, but I say it jay-el and it sounds a bit like jail (which is the wrong pronunciation I’m sure
