see title! what’s a name that you love, but would never use as a first name?
There’s a few: [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], [name_u]Dean[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
Tons! But just to name my top picks:
[name_u]Beck[/name_u], [name_u]Atlas[/name_u], [name_u]Everest[/name_u], [name_u]Finch[/name_u], [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_u]July[/name_u], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f]
(Some of these are due to them being a little too much for me personally to use as a fn, and some are just because I prefer them in the mn slot!)
[name_u]Lee[/name_u] (m/f)
[name_u]Bay[/name_u] and [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
There is quite a lot !!
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] - too short for a first and even then, would probably only use it in a set if two middles. not to mention, it doesn’t match my style
this next part is a list of middles for a sibling set, I am aware that these aren’t original spellings and are somewhat “made up” but, that’s the name of the game here!
Rhoe - like row pronunciation wise. adorable but definitely only a middle name for me.
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f] - like Reya/Raya. adorable but the same as Rhoe.
Rhun - like [name_u]Rune[/name_u]. at this point, I was just making up things.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - not made up anymore! to keep with the “rh” four letter thing I wasn’t able to use Rhysand. so, [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] only as a middle but Rhysand as a first with the nn [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. this was originally gonna be for a boy named [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] so he would’ve been [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] but, then I nixed [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] and ended up adding two more girls to the sibset so I used it for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].
Rhen - like Wren/Ren. I am aware of the spelling but, once again, making up things to stick with the theme.
btw! in case you wanted to know the sibset ended up being [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Rhoe, [name_f]Elide[/name_f] [name_f]Rhea[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] Rhun, [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] Rhen
I’m sure there’s more but these will do for now!!
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_u]Dominique[/name_u], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
Wayward (), [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f], Ariadne…
Then, there’s several “masc” middles that I’d never use as firsts because they’re like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], or [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], or [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], so really way more feminine.
[name_f]Darling[/name_f] and [name_u]Wilde[/name_u]
I have many of those, since I have a clear pattern for combos (short, simple first + long, fancy middle)
But if I have to choose a name I absolutely can’t imagine as a first… [name_f]Blanchefleur[/name_f]! It doesn’t look like a first at all
For girls I had a phase of thinking [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] made every name sound amazing, so it appears in the middle a good few times. Same goes for [name_u]Snow[/name_u] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. For boys it’s probably Valour, [name_m]Knight[/name_m], and [name_u]Wolf[/name_u]. And [name_u]Blue[/name_u] for either!
[name_f]My[/name_f] final choices would be [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] (g), Valour (b), and [name_u]Blue[/name_u] (u).
They’re mostly word names:
[name_f]Clary[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
[name_u]Brooks[/name_u]
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_u]Sparrow[/name_u]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_m]Fennec[/name_m]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
Rose,Elaine,Blythe,Lane,Rae,Clary,Clarisse,Leigh,Danika,Tabitha,Lou,Wildrose,Primrose,Avalon,Margaret ,Pauline ,Faith,Honor,April,Nesta,Kailani,Everett,Rowan,Prescott,Preston,Jude,Hugh,Taron,Conan,Montgomery,Colin,Odin,Ronan,Vaughn
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] for me!
For girls:
~Xochitl we used as a middle name because where we live no one would pronounce it correctly as a first.
~Belén will be our newest daughter’s middle name. I didn’t suggest it as a first name because accent marks aren’t used in the US, and I thought it would probably be mispronounced constantly as rhyming with [name_f]Helen[/name_f].
~Victoria I suggested as a middle name only because my husband is named [name_m]Victor[/name_m], although his family kind of nicknamed our 3 year old [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] already.
For boys:
~Joseph for my grandfather, though it’s way too common for a first name.
~Nasario is my husband’s middle name, and his father’s first name. I wouldn’t want to use the same name as his father since he is still living, but I’d use it as a middle.
~Victor is my husband’s name, so I wouldn’t use it as a first, but maybe as a middle.
For either:
Any name that I really liked that was high up on the social security popular names list. I would use a less common first name and the common name could be a middle.
[name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f]
[name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_f]Glory[/name_f]
[name_m]Smith[/name_m]
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m]
[name_u]Dream[/name_u]
[name_u]Journey[/name_u]
[name_f]Wildrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Willodean[/name_f]
Michaelangelo
[name_m]Castiel[/name_m]
[name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Edelweiss[/name_f]
[name_u]Snow[/name_u]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]
[name_m]Klaus[/name_m]
[name_u]Peregrine[/name_u]
Well, out of the name I used as a middle name for my sons, I wouldn’t use Húni or Pythagoras as first names.
Others, for different reasons:
[name_f]Viktoria[/name_f] (I think)
[name_u]Nyx[/name_u]
[name_f]Perle[/name_f]
[name_f]Nineveh[/name_f]
[name_u]Polaris[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] / Jónas
Dúnn
Patroclus
[name_m]Yul[/name_m]
Rósar
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u]
[name_u]Meridian[/name_u]
The first one that comes to mind is [name_u]Florence[/name_u] - I love love love this name, I think its so sophisticated and beautiful but I would never use it as a first, the reason solely being that I can’t find any nicknames that I like… the only ones I can think of are [name_f]Flo[/name_f], [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] & Rencie/Rency, none of which I like ):
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] & [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] are another examples, mainly because I prefer longer names as a first name.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] for a boy is also middle only in my opinion as I think it flows so much nicer in the middle instead of a stand alone.
I’ve always thought that [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] could be a NN for [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. I don’t know why but in my head it works.
