What's your first impression of Cambria?

Hello all,

I won’t know until delivery day whether I’m expecting a boy or girl. I have had a boy’s name picked for ages, but I’m having the hardest time with a girls name! I like the name [name_f]Cambria[/name_f] for a variety of reasons, but I’ve never heard it used as a name so I have some doubts. What’s your first impression when you hear the name? The last name will be Cready (pronounced Kray-dee). Thoughts?

Thanks!!!

I’m not a fan. I don’t find it remotely pretty.

It sounds a little bit like a made up alternative to the place name Cumbria. [name_f]Cambria[/name_f] Cready is a bit of a mouthful. Idk. Not a big fan.

Cambrian is incredibly beautiful, but with a similar sounding last name, it sounds almost like a book character, which might be put-offish.

I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Cambria[/name_f], and with the last name Cready there’s a lot of harsh C and R sounds. Congratulations, by the way!

I love it!!! I know a little girl named [name_f]Cambria[/name_f] and she is a doll! It’s very cute on her and I’m sure it would be your baby as well.

Its unique and I can see the name growing on me but all I can think of when I see the name is the Precambrian [name_f]Era[/name_f] (the geologic time scale)…I think thats the inner geologist in me though.

I think of the [name_f]Cambria[/name_f] font because I use it very often and it’s one of my favorite serif ones. And then I think of dinosaurs and pre-history because of the cambrian period and explosion. It’s an ok name, not my favorite though.

My first thoughts go to Cumbria. I don’t dislike [name_f]Cambria[/name_f] though. What are your MN choices?

I’m not really a fan…

I like it. It has character.

I love [name_f]Cambria[/name_f], it would be high up on our list except my husband doesn’t like it

I love it~

The font. It’s the font for me.

It’s an okay name. I don’t love it but im not opposed. I know a girl named [name_f]Ambria[/name_f] who goes to my school, maybe that would sound better with your last name?

Hmm, the first impression I get is that it seems like a foreign name. Maybe coming from Central or South [name_u]America[/name_u]. Actually, it sounds like it could be the name of an actual country.

I actually work with a woman whose name is [name_f]Kimbria[/name_f]… An option if you don’t want the name being too closely tied to a font.

I like the idea of [name_f]Cambria[/name_f], but I have too many other associations with it to like it as a girl’s name.

As others have said, it’s a font. And it’s also another word for the country [name_m]Wales[/name_m]. Plus it makes me think of Cumbria in [name_f]England[/name_f] (I live in [name_f]England[/name_f] now, so these last two might not be as much of an issue for ppl not living there).

Also, how would you pronounce it? Like the “Came” sound in Cambridge or the “[name_u]Cam[/name_u]” sound in [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]?

It reminds me of a place name but if you like it it’s all that matters

I love it! When I was a teen, the tween who lived next door to my grandparents was named [name_f]Cambria[/name_f] and her little sister was [name_f]Cicely[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name, and sweet kid who I understand has grown in to a wonderful woman.
