Whats your guesses on the 2012 SSA List? What jumped up? What fell?

What do you think are going to be the surprise jumpers? What are you shocked is still in the top spots?

I am still shocked that the aiden/jayden/kayden/braydens get so many spots in the top 100. I wonder if they fell last year. Also, i have known 3 little Coltans born in the past two years. I wonder if its just my area of the country or if its an up and comer.

What do you ladies think?

I think [name]Harper[/name] is definitely going to continue to rise. For boys…not sure but I know three people who just had little Bradens so it doesn’t look like that’s going anywhere for the moment. I think [name]Sawyer[/name] is becoming popular for boys as well as names like [name]Harrison[/name].

For certain, [name]Harper[/name]. I know several [name]Violet[/name]'s born this year (since its my dd’s name) and weirdly, 2 [name]Evangeline[/name]'s in the past two weeks. For certain, [name]Lila[/name]/[name]Lyla[/name]/[name]Lylah[/name] etc so many of those.

For boys, I have locally heard [name]Cole[/name] a lot and [name]Everett[/name]. [name]Emmett[/name] too.

Watch the rise of [name]Penelope[/name].

Well there was a contestant last year on American Idol who went by “[name]Colton[/name]”…

I’m an atheist, but I am PRAYING that [name]Eloise[/name] doesn’t rise.

Rising: [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Stella[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] (sheds a tear), [name]Lilah[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Liam[/name], [name]Logan[/name]

Actually, I guess I can see -ette/otte/et names rising as the -bella names fall.

Falling: [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Madison[/name], [name]Emily[/name]/[name]Emma[/name] (slowly), [name]Aiden[/name]

[name]Cora[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Violet[/name] (did not purposely alphebetize these… weird… I guess I’ll add “[name]Zoe[/name]”!)

The list would be so much more useful if they would combine the different name spellings. It completely changes the rankings for some of them. I think part of the reason we have so many little Aidens/Jaydens/Braydens/etc running around is because the list doesn’t combine the spellings so people think they’re a lot more “unique” than they actually are. There used to be a similar problem in the 2000s with all the people spelling [name]Caitlin[/name] different ways.

I think [name]Penelope[/name] will continue the rapid rise it has had since it re-entered the Top 1000 in 2001 (after dropping out in 1976). It was #169 in 2011, I think it will have broken in to the Top 100 in 2012, or if it hasn’t, it will only just be outside.

[name]Violet[/name] will have continued to rise as well.

I think [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Madison[/name] will start to fall, as their “replacement” names [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Addison[/name] continue to rise.

The name [name]Brooklyn[/name] has had a very similar rapid climb to that of [name]Avery[/name], entering the Top 1000 the following year that [name]Avery[/name] did, and leaping up the Top 1000 at fast pace. At #21, it’s three places behind [name]Avery[/name], and I think it may break the Top 20 in the 2012 stats. I think [name]Brooklyn[/name] is the new -lyn name of choice, now [name]Caitlin[/name] has had its day.

I’ll come back and post some more later!

I agree with pps about the rise of [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Harper[/name], and [name]Brooklyn[/name]/[name]Brooklynn[/name]. I don’t know about boys. [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], and [name]Mason[/name] will probably stay high. I knida think “son” names will rise for both genders ([name]Madison[/name], [name]Addison[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Greyson[/name]) but I think after this year it’ll start to drop. Same with the “[name]Bella[/name]” names.

I kinda think names ending in “er” will be the next ‘names ending in aden’ craze. ([name]Harper[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Carter[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name], and so on)

I’ve been hearing a lot of [name]Aubree[/name] too. (Or any of its spelling variations)

[name]Nahla[/name] was on the list for the first time in 2011 at #861. I think it will continue to rise, along with [name]Nala[/name], which isn’t on the list at all. I’ve heard it a few times.

I’ve been hearing [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] all over the place, so it seems like those names are on the up. I can see [name]Penelope[/name] continuing to rise as well.

Personally, I’m praying that [name]Stella[/name] doesn’t keep going up, as I’ve been set on [name]Estella[/name] for ages…

Another thought, I think A names are going to rise (maybe the new E names?).

Of my [name]July[/name] birth board on another site, I swear half the women are using A names…multiple little [name]Aria[/name]'s, [name]Arianne[/name]'s, [name]Annabelle[/name]'s, [name]Addison[/name]/[name]Addyson[/name]/Addysin, [name]Averie[/name]'s, [name]Aubrey[/name]/[name]Aubree[/name], etc…it was staggering when we had an ABC chart of names, maybe one or two names in every other letter and a couple dozen A’s.
