probably [name]Clover[/name]! it’s beautiful as a name but i could never use it.
I really like the look of [name]Fanchon[/name] and [name]Annchen[/name]… I would love to use them if I have more daughters but I don’t know that I can pull it off.
Probably Bèrengére because it would get butchered
[name]Ever[/name] - afraid she would be made fun of somehow since it’s such a common word
[name]Alouette[/name] - I have absolutely zero French ancestry so it would be weird
[name]Amity[/name] - scared of the Amityville Horror connection and it sounds terrible with our last name
[name]Artemis[/name] - sounds bad with last name again
[name]Ceres[/name] - pronunciation, it would probably get butchered all the time
[name]Willow[/name] - did a post about it, husband’s name is [name]William[/name]. Too close for comfort.
[name]Noelani[/name] (No-ee-lawn-ee) - Not Hawaiian
[name]Nayeli[/name] ([name]Nye[/name]-ell-ee) - I am Native American, and I love the meaning (I love you). But idk if I could do it with my last name (Chabot)
[name]India[/name]/[name]Indie[/name]/[name]Indigo[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]/[name]Serafina[/name]/[name]Seraphine[/name]
Nah, I named my female cat [name]Dexter[/name], I think [name]Dexter[/name] is one of those names that can work on girls. I could see using it as a name for a daughter.
waverly
calliope
jacinta
[name]Zena[/name] and [name]Zita[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Una[/name]/[name]Oona[/name]
[name]Eulalia[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Topaz[/name]
[name]Jayla[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Myrtle[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
Clytemnestra
[name]Myfanwy[/name]
[name]Angharad[/name]
[name]Merida[/name]. I love this as a way to get the nn [name]Merry[/name] but obviously could never because of the ‘Brave’ association. Also it drives me nuts that Pixar didn’t give their character an inherently Scottish name… Plus I can’t use some of my favorite C names because that is the ending letter of my son’s name and they would run together. Sorry [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Cosette[/name] =[ haha.
ohiom, I’m in high school, and theres a girl in my Adv. Biology class who is named [name]Michaela[/name]! Everyone really likes her name! If you love it, you should totally go for it!
There’s a lot of strange names that I would probably use if not for my husbands conservative tastes. Top of my head - [name]Wednesday[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name]. I love both of these. Wenny or Wen as a nn for [name]Wednesday[/name] and [name]June[/name] as a nn for [name]Juniper[/name].
For me, without a doubt, Kassiani.
Kassiani was an incredible namesake; reputed to be both the most beautiful and clever woman of her day. She was on a shortlist of candidates to be married to the Byzantine emperor and they held what was essentially a beauty contest. The Emperor made an allusion to the inferiority of women, based on the fact that sin entered the world through [name]Eve[/name]. She countered that redemption also entered the world through woman, i.e. [name]Mary[/name], and therefore they aren’t so inferior after all. He decided she was too mouthy, and she was like “screw this” and became a nun, and abbess, and most famously a hymnographer. [name]One[/name] of her hymns, the Lament of the Sinful Woman, is still sung to this day, and is renowned for its beauty but also its depth of theology and imagery.
You can read about Kassiani here, if interested: Kassia - Wikipedia
However, it obviously looks like a tryndee invented name. I thought about spelling it Cassiane, which to my eye looks much more distinguished, but everyone would pronounce it “[name]Cash[/name]-i-an” or “[name]Cassie[/name]- [name]Ann[/name].” Damn.
[name]Jovienne[/name] nn [name]Jovie[/name]… love that it would honor my mom [name]Jodie[/name], but I just don’t think I could do it.
[name]Anouk[/name]- doesn’t work with our last name (one syllable ending in “k”)
[name]Hermione[/name]- I love it- but the HP association is too strong
[name]Jolene[/name]- I love the [name]Dolly[/name] Pardon song, but it’s more of guilty pleasure name for me.
[name]Arlo[/name]- I love it, but two of my closest friends have boys named [name]Arlo[/name]
[name]October[/name]- Has a pretty sound and great fall feel, but it’s a tough sell
[name]Olivia[/name]- I love this name but it’s way too popular
[name]Olympia[/name]- We live near [name]Olympia[/name], Wa.
Helix (boy)- I grew up near a town named Helix
[name]Harvey[/name] - I love it, but it’s a little too old manish
Hildegarde- for Hildegarde of Bingen who was a medieval rockstar!
[name]Godiva[/name], [name]Mercedes[/name], [name]Nectaire[/name]
[name]Siobhan[/name] for fear of constant mispronounciation and [name]India[/name] because of the likely “You aren’t [name]Indian[/name]” backlash.
I actually live near [name]Olympia[/name], (well more like an hour away) ha!
I have a couple:
1.[name]Cordelia[/name]-I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name], and especially the nn [name]Cora[/name]. But people still find it tragic and I don’t like association of the [name]Buffy[/name] character.
2.[name]Niamh[/name]- I think [name]Niamh[/name] is beautiful. But seeing as though I have absolutely no Irish heritage whatsoever, and it’s not a name like [name]Liam[/name], [name]Rory[/name], or [name]Riley[/name], which are all Irish but approachable and not too Irish I don’t think I could use it, even as a middle name.
3.[name]Arwen[/name]-I adore the name and the LOTR association but it’s almost too tied with LOTR and I’d only ever have the guts to use it as a middle name.
4.[name]Olive[/name]-Although I would use [name]Olive[/name] ([name]Olive[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is my current favorite combo) it’s still a name that most people don’t understand. I’d get the “Why not use [name]Olivia[/name], it’s prettier/it’s an ugly color/olive oil/[name]Olive[/name] Oyl/a food” reactions. Personally that’s when I’d say that it’s my child and not yours, and you can get past the associations and learn to associate [name]Olive[/name] with the child’s actual personality, but most people don’t think that way.
5.[name]Sydney[/name]-It’s quite tame compared to the rest of my list, and doesn’t fit in stylistically with my favorite names, but I love [name]Sydney[/name]. I also love the character on Alias.
Ugh, there are so many! But I think [name]Ariadne[/name] tops it. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name; I’m sadly just to chicken to use it. Theres’ the spider association as well and I have a huge phobia of spiders.
[name]Phaedra[/name] and [name]Sybil[/name]
why wouldn’t you have the guts to use any of these names? just curious
