I’m not a fan of it, it reminds me of horses (bay is one of the colors a horse can be) and not so much of the actual bay (water). I don’t think it’s a horrible idea, it’s just a name I don’t like.

I like it as a middle name for a boy.

I like it a lot-- I think it’s an underused, simple nature name, and suitably unisex. I prefer it to less evocative word names like river or ocean.
