so the names my hubby and I agree on for our first son are below but our fave is [name_m]0din[/name_m]. We already have a [name_f]Seraphina//[/name_f].
[name_m]0din[/name_m] is our favourite and would honour my Norwegian roots - my question is, is it usable, not too weird or anything?
I think [name_m]Odin[/name_m] is perfectly useable, and is familiar to a lot of people, especially with the recent popularity of the [name_m]Thor[/name_m] films.
I sort of struggle with the sibset since it’s a mix of different religions; a Norse God and the highest order of angelic (Abrahamic) beings. Sound-wise it’s fine as a sibset.
I think it comes down to whether you care if people notice a theme or not. Also, if you would try for another child would you want, or feel pressured, to continue a religious theme?
He’s in all the [name_m]Thor[/name_m] movies as [name_m]Thor[/name_m]'s father. He’s played by [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] Hopkins
We are not religious and it doesnt matter to me at all tbh I think both names have a nice meaning either way. I think if we were very religious then it would probably matter. I would not feel pressured to continue a “theme” with a third child (but we plan on not having more!) in Scandinavia the name [name_m]Odin[/name_m] (and [name_m]Thor[/name_m] in various forms) are quite common, [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] not so though!
Haha, thanks! I don’t watch the movies myself, but my husband and sister (and her ex) watch them, so I’ve seen enough to at least draw that connection. Thanks for clearing that up for me! I think that the association with a movie character (not to mention religious or mythological connotations) makes it more familiar. People use pop culture for name inspiration all the time, so I don’t see much of an issue here, as far as that goes.
ok cheers guys for the input I appriciate it. I am still going back and forth with “what will people think” and “should I use a more traditional name” and " oh I love the name its perfect" - you get the pic! I was the same with my daughters name though as where we live I have never met a [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and no one knows the name so it was a “brave” choice too but suits her to a tea! would never change it now of course I get really tired of the very popular names, even when I originally have liked them, if they are overly popular that kills it for me over time :(.
It’s usable and not so strange that it’s unrecognizable (partly thanks to [name_f]Marvel[/name_f]) but it’s a very “big” name to wear in my opinion, as is many god/goddess names. I’m in the minority, but I think it clashes a bit with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].
Thanks for the input!. [name_f]May[/name_f] I ask why you think the names clash, and also, which names do YOU think go with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]? Im not a fan of most Nordic male names, I grew up with them and most of them are like “old grandpa names” to me! (except [name_m]Odin[/name_m])
For me, Seraphina sounds elegant and dainty and feels like royalty. It makes me think of operas and ballets.
Odin is very thick sounding and kind of hipster-ish. While Odin feels like royalty as well, it is blatantly Viking/Nordic it conjures up images of the Vikings- battle scenes and burly bearded men chugging beer and trying to break logs with their heads lol.
From your names I love Benjamin and Vance is good too. This is by no means a complete list, but first thoughts-
Oliver
Milo or Miles
Sebastian
Henry
Joel
Rhys
Samuel
Samson
Solomon
Joseph
Vincent
Thanks! ok I understand your view now! its so weird so many people think its “hipster” but I dont hear it at all, I kinda hate hipster names so thats a downfall definitely if its a hipster name to people lol… Im so not hipster myself! I used to like [name_m]Vance[/name_m] and my hubby loves it but I kinda have come off it… [name_m]Ive[/name_m] always loved [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] but its quite a common name here and I have a thing about using names that are really popular. Oh gosh so hard ! fr ur list I like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] I also like [name_m]Stefan[/name_m] but I couldnt use it for various reasons. Thanks again for the input x
