We were going to going to name our son [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] until a cousin used it. Now we are month away and nameless. A girl would have been [name_f]Imogen[/name_f].
We will most likely use johannes as the middle name because we do like it and it’s a family name.
Our list:
Sebastiaan- my husbands choice but a bit too mainstream for me. I prefer names not in the “top 1000” and if they are on the list, much farther down
[name_m]Rudolf[/name_m]-. Probably my favorite and my husband was liking [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] until his family called it “child abuse”. I am working on swaying him
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_m]How[/name_m] often do you see the cousin? I’ve seen cousins who have the same/similar names and personally don’t think it’s a big problem, but it’s totally understandable if you want your son to have an original name.
I love the idea of [name_u]Robin[/name_u] on a boy and [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] are also great names with many nickname possibilities. [name_m]Rudolf[/name_m], unfortunately, brings the reindeer to mind, but it definitely is still usable. I wouldn’t consider it or [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] “child abuse.” It seems your husband is falling out of love with [name_m]Rudolf[/name_m] because of his family’s remarks, unless you can both agree on it again, I wouldn’t go for [name_m]Rudolf[/name_m]. It also seems you don’t like Sebastiaan as much as the other names on your list.
My personal favorite is [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m], followed by [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m].
My cousin is more sensitive about two [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] than I am. Sure it would be nice to have a unique nane but I figure I must have good taste if someone uses my name. We are considering other names out of respect for this cousin. Thanks for the insight
I really love the idea of [name_u]Rudy[/name_u]. If [name_m]Rudolf[/name_m] isn’t for you husband maybe [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m]? If [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] is off the table, my second favorite would be [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] is very nice. [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m], or even just [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] is very nice too.
Had you told the cousin that you had planned to use [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] for your baby before theirs was born? If yes, then I think you can feel free to use it. Otherwise, I love [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] or [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] for you.
[name_u]Rudy[/name_u] [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] is cute! [name_u]Love[/name_u] that [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] means “wolf” too, it’s a favourite of mine.
It is definitely a bit more unusual, I find it is one of those names when people first hear it they often have a strong negative response, but it grows on people & eventually they realise it is really cute! (If that makes sense?!)
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] is a nice longer version, although I prefer just [name_u]Rudy[/name_u].
