When I first came onto nameberry [name_u]Willow[/name_u] was popular but now [name_f]Mara[/name_f] is popular (IMO)
I feel like [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], [name_u]Fox[/name_u] and [name_u]Elijah[/name_u] were popular for boys when i first joined - now [name_u]Atlas[/name_u], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and Elias/Elio are more popular
For girls, [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] were more popular, now i see [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] more
I don’t remember what was popular when I first came on here but when I was most active on here, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] seemed to be most popular.
Now…I can’t really tell lol. Unisex and nonbinary? Old-fashioned?
i remember seeing more frilly and fantasy character-like names, as well as a lot of trendy vintage names names when i first joined (nov 2020) like ophelia, freya, aurora, violet, hazel, elodie, genevieve, phoebe, evangeline, cordelia, and maeve.
now, i see more nickname names and short and sweet names, and i think there’s overall a wider range of names you’ll see on the forums. i like it so much better now because name nerds like us can be exposed to so many different names as opposed to the same ten every day.
This is when I used to browse but didn’t have an account.
Before - Ophelia
After - Maeve and Eloise
Glad to see that you think Mara is getting popular!
For girls, names like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. Now names like [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] was all the rage when I joined in 2010. Also [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m].
For girls I remember [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] the most.
All still [name_u]Berry[/name_u] names, but less ubiquitous. I feel like early Nameberry was a mashup of popular names and British Telegraph style. Now I see a lot more out-of-the-box choices with international names, fairytale-esque names, and unique word names.
I definitely saw a lot of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] when I joined, and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] as a middle name. I’m also seeing [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] much less than I did then. I feel like the “berry” style has broadened since I joined, and now I’m seeing a lot more international names, short and sweet classics, and adventurous middle names, as well as many long-time berry favourites.
I remember [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_m]Pascal[/name_m], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] being popular.
Now it’s [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
I feel like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] had a moment there.
I joined around 2012 (with a previous account). It’s hard for me to judge which names were the most popular though. I’d say the “core” Nameberry style hasn’t changed much and names like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] are still popular. But I do remember there being a lot of [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m] names (e.g. Tinuviel) and unusual mythological names (e.g. Melpomene). You still see those names now sometimes, but I don’t think it’s as prominent (especially not the [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m] names).
I saw [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] a ton when I first joined,
Then [name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Lena[/name_f] both go their own 2 weeks of fame just a few weeks ago.
Now I feel like I’m seeing [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] a lot more, same with [name_u]August[/name_u] as well as a lot more short & sweet names, like [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] & [name_u]June[/name_u]. Also [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] seems pretty big rn.
When I first got here: Eleanor, Alice, Theodore, Sebastian, Laurence
Now: August (g), Juliet, Louisa, Cosmo, Caspian
When I joined in 2013, the “berry” style was much more popular: mostly vintage, floral, and some Shakespearean or light mythological names, when you really wanted to get crazy. I wouldn’t have dared bring up anything unisex.
Now, I love to see that there is more diversity in the styles. You still have berry favorites but the toxic attitude towards trendy, modern, word, and unisex names is almost nonexistent.
I feel like NB is mirroring real life, however, on here it’s more like the 3-year-rule rather than the 100-year-rule that we see with names currently on trend irl.
When I first joined NB it was a lot of longer feminine names, Greek names, Wren, names like Story, Bohème, Reverie, Caspian, Atticus, Maeve, Penelope, Clementine; but I feel like there isn’t going to be a name trend I haven’t already experienced on here before.
Right now, I find trends to be less obvious to spot because we don’t have signatures anymore but I honestly feel like not much has changed, August is still popular, Fox is still popular (but Wolf isn’t anymore), River is still on many lists and the typical Berry combo of vintage first name + word middle name hasn’t really gone away either (which is nice to see). Currently I’m finding that it’s a lot more boys names that end up trending on here (Linus, Claude, Sasha) than girls names, but then maybe that’s always been like that
Ok so I went back on the wayback machine and here’s some of the names that showed up on the little searched names tick tape that used to be on the site.
