We’re starting ttc this month and I am due to ovulate around Friday. I usually get my hair highlighted every 8-10 weeks. It’s been about 6 weeks since I last had it done, but I was wondering whether I should book in for this week, in case we get pregnant (and I have to wait for ages before getting them done again) Is it at all harmful to get highlights while pregnant?
Haha, this sounds so vain
Its not harmful at all to get your hair dyed while pregnant or ttc. The chemicals that were harmful in the past are no longer in hair dyes or lighteners. [name_m]Just[/name_m] stay well ventilated and enjoy.
[name_m]Both[/name_m] my OB and my perinatal specialist - as well as my hairstylist who is also currently preggo - all said its fine and don’t worry about it. Especially highlights because so little even touches your scalp. I waited til the end of my first trimester just because I’m a chicken and I needed all-over color plus highlights, but it’s really not necessary. It’s important that you feel good about yourself too so go for it!
I don’t think it’s harmful. Perhaps avoid as much as possible during the first trimester just to be on the safe side, but it’s extremely unlikely you’ll experience any side effects.
Oh, and a word of advice: [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t put your life on hold while TTC. I missed out on a few things during my first few months of TTC. Now I just pretty much do whatever I want! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t go crazy, but getting your hair done, nails done, having a few glasses of wine, etc, isn’t going to hurt.
Oh great, thanks for clarifying that everyone and for the great advice. I think I’ll be the same CVdutch and wait til the end of 1st trimester, but I’ll definitely still be getting my hair done.
Yup, not a problem but skipping a couple months early on sounds like it will make you feel better. If you do get color done in the first trimester, just make sure your salon has great ventilation! The smell was a lot for me!
Totally safe, just make sure it’s done in a well-ventilated area (a salon is fine, a small windowless bathroom is not)
