When it's not an honor name, but someone in your family

Not expecting, but starting to get a serious list together and a name that I’ve loved for a long time is [name_f]Constance[/name_f]. It has some meaning for me because it was always the name that I picked for myself when playing pretend with my cousins when I was a little girl, also, I just like it.

I have a cousin-in-law (husband’s cousin) who is named [name_u]Konstantin[/name_u] and is called Kostia. I actually never even realized how close the names are, they feel so different to me.

[name_f]My[/name_f] question is: [name_f]DO[/name_f] these two names feel too close? Would picking this name seem like an honor name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that anyone would see that connection and ask or wonder?

Basically, I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a scenario where I have to honestly say that it isn’t an honor name because it seems kind of rude or harsh. I mean, we aren’t incredibly close, but we see each other fairly frequently and I would hate if this became something that was brought up or assumed or joked about. Thoughts?

The names do not seem to be “too close”. Someone may think it is an honor name…and if they ask there is nothing wrong with saying “oh, yeah they are similar aren’t they! It’s just the name that spoke to us most.” and if they are left wondering…let them wonder. That will die down in no time. People have their own lives going on and after they are used to baby [name_f]Constance[/name_f], no one will think twice of it  By the by, [name_f]Constance[/name_f] is my middle name so kudos to you for using/considering a great classic! ;D

Thank you! I might be over thinking it!

I think you are over thinking. Use [name_f]Constance[/name_f]. It’s lovely.

[name_f]Constance[/name_f] is great! I definitely see where you’re coming from about wanting to use a name, but not actually honour a person (it’s why less common names of people I know are off limits). I don’t think it’s that noticeable, but if anyone did notice the similarity, you could just say you really liked the name, and used it for that reason alone.

No, they are not the same. If you don’t like the person with that name, you might want to avoid it though. But I doubt anyone will say they are the same.

I think they sound very different. Use [name_f]Constance[/name_f]!
