When styles clash drastically- suggestions, please!

My husband and I have literally gone through thousands of names for our baby boy (due in [name]March[/name]) and nothing overlaps. We already have a daughter named [name]Matilda[/name], and would have used [name]Beatrix[/name] this time around if the boy were a girl.

To give you a sense of my taste, my current favorites are probably:

[name]Caspian[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Jonas[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Pascal[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]

My husband, on the other hand, has much more unusual taste. He tends to like word names, uncommon surnames, and names from mythology and literature. Some of his favorites, plus a few he has recently mentioned:

[name]Alden[/name] (I have mixed feelings about this one)
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Castor[/name]
Govannon
[name]Horatio[/name]
Klimt
[name]Nestor[/name]
[name]Niall[/name]
[name]Pollux[/name]
[name]Sheldon[/name]
[name]Titus[/name]
[name]Winslow[/name]
Wodan

We both like, but can’t or probably won’t use:
[name]August[/name]
Devereux
[name]Tadhg[/name]

We do have a few compromise names picked out that we both feel ‘meh’ about, but I’m still hoping we’ll be able to find something we really love. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

[name]Soren[/name] is a philosopher and a modern name. [name]Winslow[/name] is a great point to move beyond. There are a lot of great, sort of unusual names that start with W but that also sound “in” because of how popular [name]William[/name] is right now, i.e. [name]Westcott[/name]
What about [name]Hugh[/name], or go the Shakespearean route if that’s where he’s getting [name]Titus[/name]: [name]Leontes[/name], [name]Aeneas[/name], [name]Hal[/name], [name]Julius[/name], [name]Duncan[/name], etc.

First, welcome to nameberry!!! (and is your name Endellion? That’s such a beautiful name, I’m planning on using for my baby also due in [name]March[/name]!)

You both have great taste, both quite similar to my own taste.

[name]Rafferty[/name] (because it’s awesome)
[name]Algernon[/name] (from The Importance of Being [name]Earnest[/name])
[name]Desmond[/name] (from Thus was [name]Adonis[/name] Murdered)
[name]Tristram[/name] (from The Life and Opinions of [name]Tristram[/name] [name]Shandy[/name])
[name]Roland[/name] or [name]Randolph[/name] (from Possession)
[name]Wilfred[/name] (from [name]Ivanhoe[/name])
[name]Ragnar[/name] (from [name]Atlas[/name] Shrugged)
[name]Orlando[/name] (from [name]Orlando[/name])
[name]Mortimer[/name] or [name]Eugene[/name] (from Our Mutual [name]Friend[/name])
[name]Marlowe[/name] (from The Big Sleep, or as in [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name])
Deronda (from [name]Daniel[/name] Deronda)
[name]Cambell[/name], Calidore, Artegal, Mainell (from The Faerie Queene)
Hylas (Greek mythology, a beautiful youth “abducted” by nymphs (he seemed to go willingly))
[name]Orpheus[/name] (Greek mythology, a man who played such beautiful music everyone and everything became enchanted)
[name]Orion[/name] (Greek mythology, a great hunter and a constellation)
[name]Jason[/name] (Greek mytholgy, the dude with the golden fleece)
[name]Damon[/name] or Phintias(Greek mythology, can’t tell the whole story here but it is about friendship and trust and loyalty)
[name]Dante[/name] (Alighieri or [name]Gabriel[/name] Rosetti)
[name]Virgil[/name] (the man who wrote The Aeneid)
[name]Gustav[/name] (Klimt’s first name)
[name]Alphonse[/name] (for [name]Alphonse[/name] Mucha)
[name]Rainer[/name] (for [name]Rainer[/name] Rilke)
[name]Nelson[/name] (for [name]Horatio[/name] [name]Nelson[/name])
[name]Galileo[/name] (for [name]Galileo[/name] Galilei)
[name]Homer[/name] (man who wrote The Odyssey and The Illiad)

Ooh, I love [name]Abbott[/name] with [name]Matilda[/name]. Cute.

The first thing that jumps out at me is that he has both [name]Castor[/name] and [name]Pollux[/name] on his list, while you have [name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] on yours. Why not meet in the middle with [name]Caspar[/name]? Unlike [name]Casper[/name], there’s no friendly ghost association, and [name]Caspar[/name] is considered the wisest of the legendary [name]Magi[/name] (astronomers and astrologers who read the future in the stars)

From your list I love; [name]Conrad[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Oscar[/name] & [name]Theodore[/name].

From your husband’s list I love; [name]Alden[/name], [name]Horatio[/name], [name]Niall[/name] and [name]Winslow[/name].

Other ideas…
[name]Auden[/name]
[name]Alaric[/name]
[name]Eugene[/name]
[name]Whittaker[/name]
[name]Jenson[/name]
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Rigby[/name]
[name]Ridley[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name]
[name]Fletcher[/name]
[name]Gulliver[/name]
[name]Aristotle[/name]
[name]Ajax[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]
[name]Apollo[/name]
[name]Bay[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Creed[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Linden[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]

Thanks for the replies! [name]Ottilie[/name], my name is not Endellion, it was just an available username. I do think it’s very pretty though.

I like, but he doesn’t:
[name]Soren[/name]
[name]Julius[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]Tristram[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Orlando[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Alaric[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]

He likes, but I don’t:
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Rainer[/name]
[name]Orson[/name]
[name]Gulliver[/name]
[name]Ajax[/name]

Most of the names suggested are too out there or too popular for me, although I will ask about [name]Rafferty[/name], [name]Ragnar[/name] (as a middle only, probably), and [name]Atlas[/name].

I love the [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Jude[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Artemis[/name] combos!
