[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
There are two girl names that are on the top of my list. However, I like them only if they are pronounced a certain way. Here are the names. Can you read them and tell me what pronounciation first comes to mind. Thanks!
[name_f]Darrah[/name_f]
(DARE-rah) or (DAR-ah)
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]
([name_f]FAY[/name_f]-dra) or ([name_u]FEE[/name_u]-dra)
I would say DARE-rah and [name_f]FAY[/name_f]-dra, respectively.
For prn DAR-ah I would spell it [name_f]Darra[/name_f], though I would probably still guess DARE-rah at first. I’ve never heard of [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] prn [name_u]FEE[/name_u]-dra.
I would pronounce the first one DAR-ah, though I could see it being DARE-rah as well. It’s like [name_f]Tara[/name_f], which has two accepted pronunciations.
The second is definitely [name_f]FAY[/name_f]-dra.
[name_f]Darrah[/name_f] - “DAR-ah” was my first thought (eg. Arabic name [name_f]Farah[/name_f] or the Irish [name_f]Tara[/name_f]) but I can see how some would say it “[name_f]DAIR[/name_f]-ah” as well (eg. [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] Fawcett and the Biblical [name_f]Sarah[/name_f])
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] = “[name_f]FAY[/name_f]-drah” (only option here)
I think [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] is much prettier!
My first thought is DAR-ah but after thinking about similar names I got to Dare-ah (rhyming [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] like [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] said). I’ve only heard [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] pronounced as [name_f]FAY[/name_f]-drah.
But I think [name_f]Darrah[/name_f]'s pn might be to do with accent. Like with [name_f]Cara[/name_f], I say CAR-ah, but it sounds like CARE-uh in an American accent.
I would say DAR-ah (like [name_f]Zara[/name_f] or the British prn. of [name_f]Clara[/name_f]/[name_f]Cara[/name_f]/etc.), and [name_f]FAY[/name_f]-drah.
I’d say DAR-ah, but then I’ve only ever seen [name_u]Dara[/name_u] before.
And definitely [name_f]FAY[/name_f]-dra. Beautiful name btw, one of my faves (but had to be pushed to mn)
Thanks everyone.
The pronunciation listed on the websites I have found mostly list DAR-ah which is why I asked cause I read it DARE-rah and prefer it that way as the name appeals to me as it’s sort of a good mixture of my husbands and my names ([name_m]Garrett[/name_m] and [name_f]Debrah[/name_f])
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] I have seen the pronunciation listed as [name_u]FEE[/name_u]-dra, which surprised me because I only ever thought of it as [name_f]FAY[/name_f]-dra also.
Thanks again everyone.
