So I tend to love H names!
I like
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
Hatttie
[name_f]Hallie[/name_f]
But I also tell people I love [name_f]Holly[/name_f]! Whenever I say that, people go, “how about [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]?”
Where is the love for holly? I love that it’s
Easy to spell
Not too common
But very familiar
Ends in a [name_m]LY[/name_m] with no “nickname added” Ie [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] becomes [name_f]Hanny[/name_f]…
[name_f]Holly[/name_f] gives me such vibrant imagery that I can’t help but love her! She’s snow, vibrant gold and red. I know some may find her “dated”, but I think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is a timeless classic. More people should consider [name_f]Holly[/name_f], in my opinion.
[name_f]Holly[/name_f] is sweet. I don’t find it “dated” per se but it’s not exciting or new either. I like [name_f]Holly[/name_f] a lot more than [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f], for what it’s worth.
[name_f]Holly[/name_f] is one of those names like [name_f]Paige[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] to me.
Slightly dated, but sweet in their simple, “plain” feel. And it gets a bonus for the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] connection.
I personally really like [name_f]Holly[/name_f]. I cant use it because I associate it with a girl from school that I grew up with.
Other people may not be “into the name” as its similar to [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. And I know alot of people who have named their dogs [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. That’s the only reason I can think of [name_f]Holly[/name_f] not getting all the love. And also [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is very seasonal themed.
I love [name_f]Holly[/name_f]! I also like [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and [name_f]Hildie[/name_f]. [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is definitely my favorite H name though!
I don’t think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is bad or unusable at all, just a little dated! It’s very “80s/90s high school movie” to me, even though the only [name_f]Holly[/name_f] I can think of off the top of my head is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn’s character in Breakfast at [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]'s.
I know lots of Hollys/Hollies of various ages ranging from babies to women in their 30s, it definitely does get plenty of love in the UK!
Personally, I don’t mind it, but nor do I find it particularly appealing or exciting. I don’t tend to love names ending in the “ee” sound anyway (with some exceptions), because they feel a little cutesy and unfinished to me. I also just find it a bit… vanilla.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the [name_f]Holly[/name_f] Golightly connection, though!
I’m loving [name_f]Holly[/name_f] at the moment. She’s so simple yet has so much about her at the same time, and people seem to forget about her! She’s neither too recent to be considered popular nor too outdated to be considered old fashioned. [name_f]Holly[/name_f] (or [name_f]Hollie[/name_f], I go back and forth) is magical.
I think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is so cute! My only concern is that it feels very wintry/Christmasy to me, so I’m not sure I’d actually use it, but I love it.
I think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is a perfectly good name that would serve a girl /woman well, but I can’t bring myself to love it. On principle, I object to the idea that names are considered “dated” just because they were popular with a recent a generation, but for me [name_f]Holly[/name_f] very strongly evokes my 1970s childhood. The character [name_f]Holly[/name_f] Hobby was ubiquitous and I was a huge fan, so now I when I hear the name [name_f]Holly[/name_f], I think of easy bake ovens, avocado appliances, shag carpet, and mustard colored wallpaper. [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is a lovely classic nature name, but I offer this since you asked.
My thoughts are always choose what you like eff everybody else’s opinion. [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is cute and perfecting normal we are up to our eyeballs in [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s right now, but if you like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] go for it.
As a [name_f]Holly[/name_f] myself I feel like I should weigh in!
My issue was that when I was born it was in the top 20 names in the UK and so there were 6 [name_f]Holly[/name_f]'s in my year, and unlike the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s and the [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]'s, there was no nickname potential, so it wasn’t even like we could use a nickname to make ourselves standout. Of course this isn’t an issue any more so I feel it is actually more wearable than it was.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] as a note, growing up, I personally wished I could have had a nickname, the closest I got was Hols (holes) and I also got a lot of: So were you born in the winter? from people.
But I have always liked that it is a strong name, and not too girly girly!
Thanks so much for your thoughts!!! That’s actually part of why I love it - we don’t know anyone with that name!! Hol and Hols seem like sweet nicknames to me! We have a [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (not [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]) and I love that her name is her name and not a nickname
