Where to find number of babies born with a name in a specific year?

I’m sure someone is going to answer this in like two seconds, but I just am having the hardest time Googling it because the search terms are too vague.

I know that the social security site lists data for the top 1000 names. But I’ve seen people reference uncommon names (here on nb and elsewhere) saying that there were “13 babies named ___ in 2011,” or whatever. But the name isn’t in the top 1000, so it isn’t coming from SSA. Unless I am totally missing something and you can find this on the SSA site? I feel like I’ve tried every possible link in their baby names pages to no avail.

Where do you get this information?

You have to dig a bit deeper on the SSA site to find it (under “Background Information” and then "Beyond the Top 1000 Names), but here’s the link to the files you can download with that information.

It took me a while to figure it out, too! You actually have to download it. You want the two links near the middle of the page.

Whoa that is intense! I just downloaded the files. I guess I don’t feel so dumb now because finding these isn’t all that obvious, haha. Thanks so much you guys!

Oh, please, no! I’d already downloaded them and I was having a [one-sided] cursing match with my computer trying to find the link again. It’s buried pretty deep!

I appreciate the link too, and now I can’t tear myself away! Not good news for the paper I have to write

I just found [name]Nevaeh[/name]'s cousin Nevaehly.

No. <whispers> no. And shouldn’t it be Lnevaeh? Or even L’[name]Nevaeh[/name]?

I know! It’s like a backwards/anagram/hot mess.
