Which 'dated' name do you hear most on babies?

I hear [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] on babies/toddlers all the time! I feel like this name sounds very 90s but there are 4 Amandas under 4 at the daycare I work at, and at a daycare I used to work at there were 2 Amandas.

What name do you find dated that you still hear on babies/young children?

I was so surprised when I met a six-year-old [name_u]Kim[/name_u] a while back!

I second [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], and amazingly, her mother is surprised when she runs into so many adult Amandas. I also recently met a little [name_f]Jenny[/name_f].

I really like names that are seen as dated. I’ve heard [name_m]Alan[/name_m] and [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] being used on young children, I have acquaintances in their late 20’s named [name_f]Shirley[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f] and [name_f]Brenda[/name_f]. I went to school with an [name_f]Ita[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_m]Alan[/name_m], [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_f]Brenda[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] as names, I find them refreshing and it’s great to see them still being used as some names that peaked during one particular decade are real gems.

Another one I feel I see a lot on young children is [name_f]Kristen[/name_f]. Oh and [name_f]Megan[/name_f] too, although I don’t feel [name_f]Megan[/name_f] seems as dated.

For boys I feel I still hear [name_m]Brian[/name_m] often, which I find very 70s.

I met a 3 year old [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] the other day! I have a feeling her mommy is a berry

[name_f]Melanie[/name_f], [name_f]Lynette[/name_f], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! Shocked that is in the top ten on the 2014 list. To me its an old lady name!

I guess it all depends on how old you are ! To me names like Hesta, [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] & [name_u]Alva[/name_u] are very old fashioned.

I’ve met a 2-year-old [name_f]Karen[/name_f], a 6-year-old [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], and a little baby [name_f]Vera[/name_f]! I’ve also met a teenager named [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], who went by [name_f]Thea[/name_f]!

I’ve seen high-school aged kids named [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]. I’ve met a lot of elementary-school kids named [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. There have also been some named [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]. Also, a [name_u]Shannon[/name_u].

They’re not entirely babies, but they’re all under the age of 12:

[name_f]Michelle[/name_f] (2)
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] (3)
[name_u]Jordyn[/name_u] (3-4)
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] (2)

I think there is a big difference between “dated” and “old fashioned”.

a baby vera is old fashioned, while a baby amber is dated.

of course not everyone will have the same perception, it’s all quite interesting really.

my colleague has an abby, which I find a bit dated. but she also has a lily, which I find old fashioned.

I know a two year old [name_m]Brandon[/name_m] who has a baby brother named [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
My cousins daughter is named [name_f]Holly[/name_f] she’s two
A two year old [name_f]Maddison[/name_f] (which I think of a nineties name)
A five year old [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] (siblings named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f])

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] I hear quite a bit on all ages. [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] I hear a lot too, which feels very 90s to me. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], [name_f]Suzzanne[/name_f], I heard a [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f] once!

It is one of my biggest pet peeves when TV shows use dated names for teenagers. It seems that everyone in Hollywood still thinks that every high school girl is named [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] or [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]. It really gets on my nerves because those names are really quite rare for people my age although I know one of each. In reality, the most popular names in my school would probably be [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f].

Anywho, I knew a now 12/13 year old [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]. My younger sister has a friend (she’s 8) named [name_f]Renee[/name_f]. There’s a 6 year old named [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] who’s the son of a teacher at my dance studio. I also saw a locker at my school with a name sign that said [name_m]Larry[/name_m]. He would be a freshman. There’s a [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] in my grade, and that is her full name.

I’m putting the age, if I know it, in parenthesis.

[name_u]Dana[/name_u] (8/9)
[name_f]Amber[/name_f] (I know two, one is about 4 and the other is about 10)
[name_f]Michelle[/name_f] (6)
[name_f]Kristin[/name_f] (2)
[name_f]Megan[/name_f] (7)

[name_m]Chad[/name_m] (6)

ETA:
Lauren x 2 (one is 4, one is 7)
Ashley x 2 (one is 7, one is 11)

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Andrea[/name_u]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]

I second [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], although really it’s not such an eighties name in the UK as it is in the US I believe

I’ve heard a few [name_m]Richards[/name_m] which seems very Dad name to me

[name_u]Madison[/name_u]. Seriously. Why is this name still in the top ten?
