I’m with you - two middles = extra opportunities to use more great names! Sometimes too they can add really interesting vibes to a name overall, if they sound quite different from each other. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother has two middle names and has told me that sometimes forms only leave space for one middle initial or don’t have space for all of the characters, but he doesn’t find it too difficult or annoying to navigate.
I’m usually a “one middle name only” person, but I’ve been known to make infrequent “exceptions,” especially for double barreled first names (which I love; [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] are favorites of mine) and combos that either 1) are intentional honor combos or 2) just flow really well together. That said, I don’t begrudge anyone else doing double middle names! It’s just not for me.
I personally prefer the one middle option because with two middles I usually struggle to find a good flow to the name combination.
Plus, it’s not really a thing in my culture to have two middles, unlike for example in some Spanish-speaking countries where it seems to be much more common.
Two middles could also potentially be a problemw when filling out the paperwork. There is also the possibility of using two names that you love as your kids’ middles and then wishing you had “saved” one to name another baby.
But I get the appeal for people that have a more elaborate style of naming or have an easier time finding good-flowing combos when they have two middles.
I like them either way No preference really! I do single middles only as I feel like my names sound better with single middles, but in the past I had double middle combos too.
I’m not a big fan of two middle names. I feel like it makes the name so long usually. It would be nice to use more names that I like, but I just don’t like the flow of most names with two middles.
I usually prefer one middle name and my daughter has ‘only one’… however our son is coming soon and because we both wanted middles names that were important to us (but because we live abroad not great as first names) we’re going with two! I think two is fine- I like [name_m]Niklaus[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]!
For the most part I’m a one middle name person. I never really ever came across the two middle uses until Nameberry.
I do think a lot of factors come into play… the overall middle combo is important but also with how it fits into the overall name. A lot of times I feel like the first name gets lost with lengthy middles.
I will say with your boy combos it’s hard to form an opinion on the first without the last name since [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds like a last name itself. With your second one I’d personally prefer the flow and look of [name_m]Stefan[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] better.
With Lilivere (cool name choice btw) And [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] I also IMO feel a better flow with the one middle. Lilivere Celeste/Arwen and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f].
Generally 2 is over the top and 1 is just enough. I think it depends on your culture/ traditions though. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] never met someone irl with 2 middles.
I prefer just one middle name for my own kids. In my husband’s family, not everyone even has a middle name. He is one of 6 kids and only him and two of his brothers have a middle name. They all have two last names though. Not all of our nieces and nephews have middle names either, but they all have two last names as well. (Except my brother’s daughter who has a middle name and only one last name, but they aren’t Mexican).
Most of the people in my family have middle names, except my dad’s sister whose first name is [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. We all have one last name.
I only know one person in real life with two middle names, our oldest niece. She also has two middle names, so she has 5 names total. Her mom often calls her [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], which is her first middle. The second middle is a Nahuatl name, [name_f]Citlali[/name_f] (“star”). Her first name is [name_u]Guadalupe[/name_u], but everyone calls her [name_f]Lupe[/name_f].
It would depend on the names and if the combo flowed well. I definitely want my future children to have a name from my side of the family, even if the name is in the second middle names spot.
