Congratulations on baby two! ”ris and Sóley are both beautiful so it’s really hard to choose a favourite. We have also considered [name_f]Iris[/name_f] for our baby, so I guess that’s the winner for me. I feel it’s a little more familiar to non-Icelandic speakers and perhaps a better match with Freyja. That said, you really can’t go wrong with either. Have you thought of any middle names to go with them?
I have to add that I love the meaning of Sóley, though, and that [name_m]Sol[/name_m] is one of my favourite names ever. Hmmm
Wow, Sóley is so beautiful, I love it!
Is [name_f]Soley[/name_f] often used as a name in Iceland? I do not really know enough to say if it would be very strange to wear as a name where you live. It was very easy for me as an American to read and pronounce. I even got the pronunciation correct before reading the rest of your post.
I prefer [name_f]Soley[/name_f] to [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. While [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is nice, I really like the flowy sound of [name_f]Soley[/name_f], and the meaning is lovely. It also strikes me as the better match with Freyja. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would not be a bad choice, but I vote for [name_f]Soley[/name_f].
@ revlon: Yes, both names are common in Iceland! Thank you for your comments, glad to hear you could pronounce it easily
@ziggy: Thank you
@daphodil: Congratulations to you too! Maybe the middle name would be Margrét, I’m not sure. It’s a family name that would mean a lot but it doesn’t go that well with the patronymic. So I’m still a bit unsure about whether I would green light it - I know my partner would want it if I let him and I probably would this time round.
Well looks like it’s a dead heat with the poll so I’m taking that to mean I have two good options here
I love Sóley as well. It has such a nice sound and I love the meaning!
