I really, really like [name]Jocelyn[/name]. It’s one of my favorite “ends in -lyn” names. I didn’t realize it’s so popular–I don’t hear it where I live (TX). I prefer the original spelling, but any of them will work. The only spelling that I reacted negatively to is Josselin, but only because it reminded me of [name]Kate[/name] Gosselin (I know plenty of people like her, but I’m tired of all of the Gosselins). If you think that you’ll be calling her [name]Joss[/name] or [name]Josey[/name], a [name]Jos[/name]- spelling makes a lot of sense.

The only girl by this name that I know is [name]Jocelyne[/name] and she hates that people don’t spell it right, they always spell it w/o the E. I think that is the standard spelling. If people are saying [name]Jaclyn[/name]…then they aren’t paying attention. I think it’s a beautiful name.

Thanks for voting everyone!! So far, we’re still using it. That’s a good sign considering most names don’t make it past 48 hours!

The spelling is still up for debate. DH and I both like the 3 syllable pronunciation. He likes the use of an S instead of a C (esp since I pointed out the first name combination factor). He would like it spelled [name]Joselin[/name]. I’m half with original spelling and half wanting to exchange the “lyn” for “lin”. I’ve never been a huge fan of “lyn” names since they seem trendy and made-up. I guess we have a few months to get it all figured out.

I voted [name]Jocelyn[/name]. I don’t mean to be rude, but I can’t for the life of me imagine why people would have trouble pronouncing [name]Jocelyn[/name] as spelled. Perhaps they’ve never heard the name, but it’s not terribly popular around here and I just don’t feel like it’s so obscure it needs that much clarification. My guess is that you got a bad lot with the people you showed, but regardless, once you tell them the correct pronounciation, I don’t think they will have a difficult time.

That being said, I am not a fan of doing different spellings for common names. I think [name]Jocelyn[/name] falls into this camp, BUT I can see the appeal of [name]Joslin[/name] combining you and your spounse’s name, therefore, I wouldn’t mind that, but as you pointed out, it’s not the same name, so I suppose it’s up to you.

So in my mind it’s either [name]Jocelyn[/name] or [name]Joslin[/name].

My brother has a friend named [name]Jocelyn[/name], she is in her 20’s. They pronounce it [name]JOS[/name]-lyn. I would stick with the original spelling.

[name]Jocelyn[/name]. It was my grandmother’s name and we’re considering using it for a MN this time. I’m surprised that it ranks as high as it does on the SSA list – I rarely hear it.

I’ve always preferred the spelling Josseline. I know it’s quite a lot of letters, but it is the French female variation of the name and I’ve always thought it just looked prettier. Something about the spelling [name]Jocelyn[/name] just looks very awkward to me.

Please stick with [name]Jocelyn[/name]. I think you will regret changing it.
