[name]Eliza[/name]. To me, [name]Amelie[/name] sounds really awkward in English.
I like [name]Amelie[/name] better, but I agree that it’s not that great unless you’re French, so I would go with [name]Eliza[/name].
[name]Eliza[/name] <3 It’s just gorgeous!
I don’t quite love either… [name]Amelie[/name] is going to be mistaken for [name]Emily[/name], but [name]Eliza[/name] simply doesn’t hold the same appeal for me as [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Given the choice, I would choose [name]Amelie[/name].
My preference would be [name]Eliza[/name]
I much prefer [name]Eliza[/name]. [name]Amelie[/name] will end up misspelled all the time and possibly mispronounced too.
Tough choice! I love both names but voted for [name]Amelie[/name] because I love the nn [name]Millie[/name]. I also think that [name]Eliza[/name] is going to become quite popular over the next year or 2…not sure if that matters to you. Although, I guess there will be a fair few Millies out there with [name]Amelia[/name] on the rise (and [name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name] here in [name]Oz[/name]). I don’t think you can go wrong with either name - they are both beautiful and I think you could use them as a fn/mn combo.
I love both names - great choices! I went with [name]Eliza[/name], mostly for the exact same reason as @catloverd mentioned, but also because it reminds me of [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn in My Fair Lady and I just love her so much.
[name]Eliza[/name]! It’s always been one of my favorites, I absolutely love it. It has a great mix of girly spunk, charm, and class. Maybe [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Amelie[/name] as a combo?
Voted for [name]Eliza[/name].
When I was a little girl, right after my dad died my family lived with friends for a while and the lady we lived with (for almost two years) had a really terrible little girl named [name]Eliza[/name]. She was a brat, she never listened, she was always hitting my little sister and bossing her around, her hair was never brushed and I swear she always had snot running down her face. It ruined an otherwise beautiful name for me.
I love [name]Eliza[/name]!
[name]Eliza[/name] is one of my favorite names that was shot down by my DH. [name]Amelie[/name] is our current second favorite name…sooo I’m voting for [name]Eliza[/name], but love love love both of your choices! It would probably come down to how each sounds with your last name.
Thanks for all of the replies!! My love for [name]Eliza[/name] is definitely reinforced! I get excited when people can appreciate my names, if that makes sense : ) I’ll just have to do a littler more convincing with DH.
I never thought of the mispronunciation problems with [name]Amelie[/name] and [name]Emily[/name]. I have a cousin named [name]Amelie[/name]…since it is a common name to me, I guess I assumed everyone else would know how to pronounce it too. I can see it maybe getting confused with [name]Amelia[/name] bc of similar spellings. Definitely something to keep in mind though!
[name]Eliza[/name]!!!
