For my newest character in the making, I’m stuck between [name]Winifred[/name] and [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. Either way, her nickname is going to be [name]Winnie[/name]. She’s going to be named for her grandmother. She’s in her early twenties, with strawberry-blonde hair, freckles, and green eyes; if that helps any. I just need some opinions here, because I’m stuck!
[name]Winifred[/name] leans more naturally to nn [name]Winnie[/name]. With [name]Gwendolyn[/name], I’d be more inclined to use nn [name]Gwen[/name].
I completely agree.
Is your female character a bit tomboyish or girly-girly? I would choose [name]Winifred[/name] for a boyish character and [name]Gwendolyn[/name] for a frilly female. I have to agree with the pp’s. I wouldn’t think of [name]Winnie[/name] as a nn for [name]Gwendolyn[/name].
Yes, I love [name]Winifred[/name]. Have you considered [name]Guinevere[/name]? I like that more than [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and the nickname [name]Winnie[/name] sounds a bit better with it…what do you think?
I vote for [name]Winifred[/name]. I love that name!
[name]Just[/name] a suggestion: [name]Guinevere[/name]. It is kind of a mix of the two names, leans more towards the nickname [name]Winnie[/name], and is prettier than [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]IMO[/name] anyway.
I like [name]Guinevere[/name] a lot, and [name]Gwendolyn[/name] doesn’t really lead you to [name]Winnie[/name]. I, however, have a particular dislike for [name]Winifred[/name], it sounds too…I don’t know, it just isn’t a very appealing name. A very unusual full name for [name]Winnie[/name] is [name]Winter[/name]. You could also do something like their name is [name]Gwendolyn[/name] [name]Winifred[/name] ______ (whatever the last name is) and they go by [name]Winnie[/name]. [name]Kinda[/name] like having someone named [name]John[/name] [name]William[/name], and they go by [name]Will[/name]. Go by the nickname for your middle name.
I think that [name]Winifred[/name] would make more sense if you’re going to call her [name]Winnie[/name] either way, even though both names are nice.
I agree that [name]Winifred[/name] is a good full name, but I really dislike the name. Not that it matters to me; it’s not my story!
