Which do you prefer?

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]? Reasons much appreciated x

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I just prefer the sound and the look of it.

I also have and adorable 14-month-old niece named [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and I admit that influences my opinion a bit.

That’s a hard one! I love the nn [name_u]Penny[/name_u] for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but I also love the sweetness of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

I think I like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] the teensiest bit more than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] looks and sounds more appealing.

I like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] better. It looks and sounds more appealing. I’ve never liked [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and I’ve never understood its appeal.

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is okay. It’s nicknames are all awful ([name_f]Pippa[/name_f] doesn’t count) and I would assumer her parents where trying too hard to be quirky. Isn’t it used by like, 80% of celebrities too?

(You might like [name_f]Delphi[/name_f]?)

I like the a few of the nicknames for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but am not a fan of the name itself (the Kardashians ruined it for me).

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] kind of reminds me of the character from Scooby Doo, but I also kind of like it on its own merits.

I agree with this. I dislike the sound of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and its potential nicknames.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] has a nicer sound, and a range of good nicknames (I like [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] and [name_u]Penny[/name_u] best). It has a Victorian-revival sound I like.

“Daph” is not an attractive sound. [name_u]Daffy[/name_u] is a duck with a lisp.

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is a nice enough meaning, and the sound of [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is pretty, but [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is ugh. If I couldn’t use [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] I would use [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], etc. before [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Delia[/name_f]/[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] though.

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I, like PP, just don’t see the appeal in [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]!

Completely agree. I like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] much better

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] because it is less common.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] : ))) [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] to me is dated. 80s, reminds me of the tv show [name_m]Frasier[/name_m].

I like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] because it is less frequently heard. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is on the rise. While [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is cute, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is pretty.
Good luck to you!

[name_m]Both[/name_m] names are lovely. I think I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], however.

I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] except for one thing- I would worry about the nn Daphi (life [name_u]Daffy[/name_u] Duck).

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. It’s my gramdma’s name.

I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. It sounds more adult than [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but I hear it a lot around here. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] just feels a little fresher.

Impressions I get from [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]:
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is bright pink.
It feels like a silky ribbon, but it fills up and sits heavy in my mouth like a very rich dessert.
I also think of pennies in an envelope at a circus.

Impressions I get from [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is a rich purple with a little splash of green, like a blooming violet.
It feels and tastes crisp and refreshing like celery.
I think it’s spunky and energetic.

I prefer the impressions I get from [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] over [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - spunky and whimsical

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - spunky and studious

[name_m]Both[/name_m] great names. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is my personal preference.
