[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] is female and [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] is male to me, which gender were you looking for? You can also use the male spelling of [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] which is [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]. although either one would sound feminine in the U.S.

I voted for [name_f]Bronte[/name_f].

I’ve honestly never cared much for [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]. It isn’t a bad name, but I just don’t like the sound. It sounds harsh and choppy, to my ears (the syllables feel so abrupt and distinct). [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] is much more interesting. It’s unexpected without being weird.

@jackiet: Thanks for the input. I’m aware of the male spelling [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f], that is why I specifically did not spell it that way.

@namergirl3: Thank you.

I voted for [name_f]Bronte[/name_f]. It feels lighter to me and the literary connection is a big plus. Would Brontë be too much hassle?

I think I prefer [name_f]Bronte[/name_f], although they are similar in my esteem. I do like that it has a literary reference!

I voted for [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] because of the nickname possibilities. Mostly, I like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

I voted for Bronte.

I’ve honestly never cared much for Bronwen. It isn’t a bad name, but I just don’t like the sound. It sounds harsh and choppy, to my ears (the syllables feel so abrupt and distinct). Bronte is much more interesting. It’s unexpected without being weird.

Ditto! I agree

I find bronte very tough guy masculine to me. Like a body builder or something haha.

I like both but I think I like [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] more. The literary connection is what does it for me :slight_smile:

I much prefer [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] to [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Bronte[/name_f], not too sure why I’m just not a huge fan of [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] is one of the worst names ever. Like a previous poster saiys, it has an unpleasant sound. I don’t know what to think of [name_f]Bronte[/name_f]. To me it’s a last name of famous authors, nothing else.

This one is tough for me because both names are long-term favourites of mine. I think [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] has been used much more as a girl’s name outside the US. Certainly in Australia it’s a regular, though not over-used girl’s name. I love the sounds of both. I love the literary reference of [name_f]Bronte[/name_f], and I love the depth of character and beauty of [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]. I love Welsh names generally, but [name_m]How[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] Was My [name_f]Valley[/name_f] book and movie have just increased my appreciation of [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]. I voted for [name_f]Bronte[/name_f], but tomorrow I could go the other way!

Thank you all for your input! [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] wins in the poll but not so much in the comments. Still not quite sure what to make of the two…

I voted for [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] too, but as a given name to use in everyday life, I find it a bit less usable - there’s something about the last syllable that makes it feel a bit harsh to me. Maybe it’s not a big deal though. Both are pretty names.

[name_f]Bronte[/name_f] gives me a vintage, literary vibe. [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] gives me an overall magical feel. I prefer [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] because that is more of my style, plus I just like the sound more. I do prefer [name_f]Branwen[/name_f] (love the raven meaning) or other -wen names more ([name_f]Olwen[/name_f], [name_f]Anwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f]).
