My favourite is [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I just adore her. I love that it’s feminine without being overly frilly, and enjoy the mythology of it, though I do worry that it’s becoming very popular. My preferred spelling is Freyja.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is lovely too, and a lot less common. She’s classy, and frilly in meaning, but not so much in look or sound, which I like.
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] I’m not overly fond of myself as I find it to be rather dated. I would prefer [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] I think, as it’s a little zestier.
That said, with your son’s name, stylistically, I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] fits best, but in my honest opinion, sibling names really don’t have to ‘match’ in style. I think all three of these names go well with M’s name.
I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] too but I also worry about popularity seeing how it has jumped over 100 spaces almost every year since entering the top 1000 I wonder how far she will go? I have a feeling it won’t break through the top 100 because it has something almost exotic sounding about it that I’m guessing not too many people will brave enough to use in real life despite it being a well loved name. I do see it continuing to rise for a few more years though.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]- I love how under used yet how simple the name is. Everyone has heard this name and it is easy to pronounce and spell even though you may have never met a [name_f]Flora[/name_f] in person which I love!
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]- Is my grandmothers name. She is 90. I thought my parents would love for us to use it but they actually had the opposite reaction. I wonder if it has a fussier feel than I am looking for?
Next to [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], I prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f], and of the two, I’d probably use [name_f]Frances[/name_f] first. I love the nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. However, if you want something overtly feminine, since [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] is occasionally used on girls, then I’d go with [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
Ultimately my favorite F names are [name_f]Frida[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], and [name_f]Francine[/name_f]. [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_f]Francine[/name_f]!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]! That is sweet with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] I agree!
We are loving the nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. That’s the reason we are considering [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but we have got horrible feedback on it in real life especially from the 50+ crowd.
Both of my parents were horrified of the idea of calling our new daughter [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]! I wonder if it is generational?
I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - the mythology aspect is appealing in that she is the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of fertility and as I have difficulties with it. Another GP love of the name is the NNs [name_m]Frey[/name_m] or [name_u]Rey[/name_u] - the first being a game I and my partner play and the second being a star wars reference… I think it is a wonderful name to celebrate a baby and if I do ever have a girl it is one of my front runners.
I dislike how [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is said by some accents where it sounds like ‘[name_f]Floor[/name_f]’. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is not my style, I can see the appeal but I would not use it.
Some more ‘F’ names I love are [name_f]Florence[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Ren[/name_u]’, [name_f]Fae[/name_f] (love fairies), [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] (my flowery alternative to [name_f]Flora[/name_f]) & [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
My GP ‘F’ names are [name_f]Fauna[/name_f], Fiametta & [name_f]Frida[/name_f]
Thank you for your feed back!!
I agree! I love the meaning of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] too! I liked the name but I when I read about the mythology behind it I loved it! I agree, a perfect name to celebrate a new baby.
I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f]!
Pretty, strong, classic but still unique!
All are good options. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is cool
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is definitely my favourite! So short, vintage and snappy, sweet bit strong I do enjoy [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] too though
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is my favorite of the three; I think it’s so pretty and yet not terribly common.
But I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f], too!
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is my favorite
I like name [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] - but it’s more guilty pleasure than any other.
Other suggestion is [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].
I adore the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. It’s a name we’ve considered for our baby due in [name_u]July[/name_u] but it’s popularity here (Australia) is really worrying. It’s jumped from outside the top 100 to around 66 last year and I would be extremely surprised if it isn’t in the top 30 for 2019. I’m still considering it but already know two babies named [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. It’s also very popular in [name_f]England[/name_f] - I think it’s even in the top 20, or at least 25. I just adore the mythology of it so I don’t know whether to care or not.
I really, really like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] too, but the latter I like more because it has [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as a nickname than as a name on its own. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] I’ve considered as a middle name for this baby, it really is very pretty.
I really like all of these names to be honest. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] would probably be my favourite, but it has gotten quite popular lately and for me, that would knock it out of consideration. My second favourite is [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and I love the nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]! [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] for a girl is so beautiful imo, but again popularity would lean me towards using full name [name_f]Frances[/name_f] which sounds wonderful with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]! [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is lovely again, though often may get mixed up with [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. We considered [name_f]Flora[/name_f] for a short period of time during my pregnancy and most people heard it as [name_f]Laura[/name_f] initially.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
This is tough, but I think that [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is my favorite. It has the same sweet simple vibe as [name_f]Freya[/name_f], but seems to be way less common. I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] a lot too, but would eliminate that just because it’s unisex. Not a deal breaker; just being knit-picky to help narrow down the list. I think [name_f]Franny[/name_f] is adorable though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you? It may be hard to avoid.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
Going against the pattern, but I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] the best. It’s clipped, romantic and dignified and has great nickname options - though I don’t love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] (prefer [name_f]Franny[/name_f] or Francy). I love [name_f]Francine[/name_f] too. I then like [name_f]Flora[/name_f], which evokes posh, pretty girl to me. I do like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and it is more sophisticated than [name_f]Flora[/name_f], I just don’t love saying it as a word for some reason.
I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] but I also worry about popularity. Where I live in the United States it has been rapidly inclining since breaking through the top 1000 in 2013 and is now in the 400s. I have never met anyone with this name but I don’t want it to continue climbing and turn into the next [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f].
The nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is the reason we love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but we have got terrible feedback in real life about this name despite being loved online.
I do worry about [name_f]Freya[/name_f] getting popular even though I have never met or even heard of anyone with this name! We live in the US though so maybe it isn’t as popular here?
The nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is the reason we love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but we have received awful feedback in real life about it. The 50+ crowd seems especially offended by calling our newborn girl [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] being confused with [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is a thought I didn’t even consider! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though my mothers name is [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] so maybe it could be a way to honor her non directly? Might be a stretch.
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback!!
I am really loving [name_f]Flora[/name_f] too. Feminine but not stuffy. I agree it does give off a similar vibe to [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and I do worry about the popularity as well. I never thought about it being a concern that [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is unisex until a few people mentioned that they consider [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] unisex as well! I personally would NEVER use [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] for a girl but that is something to consider that people wouldn’t be able to tell if [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] were brothers or sisters or what!
I am starting to think a more feminine name is a better choice for our family!
Thanks for your help!!
Xx
We love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] too. It is my 90 year old grandmas name and I love the timelessness of it but we have surprisingly been getting terrible feedback about it in real life! I am loving [name_f]Francie[/name_f] for a nickname! So sweet for a little girl!
I prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I think they are both sweet and simple and unusual. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] does feel a bit dowdy to me, and I’m definitely not in the 50+ camp.
Overall, my favorite F names are [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f].
