Sorry for so many posts, sometimes not finding the right name or not knowing which one to choose just gets on my nerves haha. I obviously would really like to use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], as a full name or as a nn. The W initial is to honor my grandfather, [name_m]William[/name_m]. And [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]/[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] are the only W names I like enough to consider.
[name_f]My[/name_f] options:
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]- I like the old lady vibes but I’m not 100% sold yet. I love E names and I think this would of well with a likely sister [name_f]Esther[/name_f]. Unfortunately, I don’t think I could use both [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] and [name_f]Ida[/name_f] as sisters. [name_f]Ida[/name_f] is very high on my list so that would be unfortunate. I’m also not sure if it really counts as an honor name because only her nickname ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f]) would have the W initial. Thoughts?
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]- Again I like the old lady vibes but not 100% sold. I do like that the actual name uses the W initial.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]- I starting to like this name a lot more than I did. Spunky but vintage. I can definitely see it with [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f], and [name_f]Nell[/name_f] all names high up on my list. Again I don’t know if this counts as an honor name because only the Inn ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f]) starts with W.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]- I think nickname names are super cute. I like that it starts with a W so its fully an honor name. It doesn’t fit as well with my other girl names but that’s not too much of an issue. I have a harder time finding middle names I’d consider for it. I have a list but they all feel wrong.
What name do you think is best? I would also love middle name recommendations for each. I’d prefer middles that do not start with A and do not contain the letter N.
While I personally love just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], have you thought of [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Winne[/name_f]? It feels like a more direct [name_m]William[/name_m] namesake than [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] or just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. It doesn’t go particularly well with [name_f]Ida[/name_f] but I do think it works with [name_f]Esther[/name_f] if she also goes by a nn.
I like [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] also but don’t personally care for [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] but that doesn’t make them any less valid as choices.
While I typically don’t like nns as full names, I think that [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] could stand alone. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is my favorite full version (mostly because of [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting!)
Thank you! I’ve considered [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] but I’ve never really liked it. The Ashkenazi Jewish tradition is to name after a deceased relative using the first initial of the name. For instance I’m named after an [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] but my name is [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f], which is cool because there are so many more options!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], and just as well [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] too! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite W name is [name_f]Winona[/name_f], I have a friend with that name and we call her [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] all the time. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Winry[/name_f] too! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!
If it were me I would choose [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] or [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], (I like [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] too, but you seem to be on the fence with both [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] and between the 2 [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] follows honoring tradition, leaves [name_f]Ida[/name_f] on the table, and is just more substantial imo) but that’s because I generally don’t prefer nicknames as given names. That’s strictly personal though- if you really like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] on it’s own there is nothing wrong with using it. In that case I would just pick a tailored or less cutesy middle to balance things and provide the child with options.
I personally love [name_f]Winona[/name_f], [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] and [name_f]Winslet[/name_f]. From your list I really like [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], or just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
I wonder if names like [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Melanie[/name_f], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] or [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] could translate into the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. It might be worth it to revisit names you love that could work as well. Maybe a stretch, but I believe a name or nn is what you make it. Good luck
I like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a full name! [name_f]My[/name_f] second
favourite from your list is [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], because it has the W initial in the full name. I personally also really like [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f].
Here are some middle name options:
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Fredericka[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Mathea[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Therese[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is my favorite! It sounds fantastic with your other names, actually, imo. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] sounds like a natural sister to [name_f]Nell[/name_f], especially, but I wouldn’t bat an eye at [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ida[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f].
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] is my second favorite but I can’t speak to Ashkenazi Jewish tradition on whether or not it would “count” if only the nickname is using the first initial. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is also lovely.
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is my favorite. I used to dislike the [name_m]Fred[/name_m] part but it’s been growing on me (and I love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]). [name_f]Winona[/name_f] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] are cute too, but a different style. If you like the old lady vibe I say go [name_f]Winifred[/name_f].
It keeps the W initial, and I like the option of having a formal name.
I like just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. It’s a great name. If I were going to pick a more formal name, I would probably go with [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] or [name_f]Winslet[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite middle names for [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] are:
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] - I have a cousin [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] so it’s an awkward name to me. I do like a lot of female versions of male names (i.e. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f], etc.) but they are a little different than simply tacking on an a to make it “feminine.” I’m just not feeling it, sorry. It’s not aesthetically pleasing to me either.
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] - It’s growing on me, but I don’t love it. Out of all your choices, I definitely prefer this one the most. The “fred” part is still a little harsh to me, but the name as a whole is nice. And it’s the easiest connection to [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] - It’s okay. “Ween” just isn’t a sound pleasant to my ears, for some reason.
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] - I love it as a nickname but I don’t think it’s substantial enough on its own. As she gets older, she may want the option of having a more professional name. I prefer [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] for nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] obviously works as well.
I absolutely adore [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]! [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is nice too but I love the full name [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
I think it sounds beautiful with a one syllable mn, something like
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Have you considered [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]? That’s my absolute favourite route to the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. It might even be a better way to honour a [name_m]William[/name_m] as the ‘L’ gives it a little more connection to [name_m]William[/name_m] than the first letter alone. Anyway, love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]!
I would go with just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. It’s charming and fun, and I honestly think it fits best with your other girl names. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] sounds like a perfect sister name for [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], &/or [name_f]Esther[/name_f]! The other three full name options are a little lengthy and stuffy next to those short & sweet names, imho.
