Breslin- boy or girl?
I love it for either, and think it could make a great girl name, but everybody I’ve met seems to think it’s only suitable for a boy. Thoughts?

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of it for males or females. Where did you get it from?
I came up with it for a first name after watching a movie starring the actress [name]Abigail[/name] Breslin. I actually added it to my list of possible girls names, but whenever I shared it with someone, they automatically assumed it was a boys name.
[name]Abigail[/name] Breslin was my first thought, too. When I think of her, I think Breslin sounds more girly, but just looking at it, I would assume boy (mainly because it reminds me of [name]Berlin[/name], and [name]Berlin[/name] seems masculine to me). I say it could go either way, but if people don’t associate it to [name]Abigail[/name], I would say boy.
I think it’s boyish. Kind of sounds like “grisly.”
Breslin sounds like grisly? Really?
i find it more Boy,
I think I know what Alzora means. Breslin doesn’t rhyme with grisly, but it has one prominent sound the same, so it reminds her of grisly.
I strongly dislike the name [name]Greer[/name] because it makes me think of grim, groan and sneer. [name]Sloane[/name] makes me think of slime and moan. Not saying it’s logical.
If I saw ‘Breslin’, I would automatically think boy. Not sure why.
I think of a girl only because I associate it with [name]Abigail[/name] Breslin immediately.
Sounds like a boy name to me, but most surnames do.
I immediately thought of [name]Abigail[/name] Breslin so I think it’s girly.
It reminds me of [name]Breckin[/name] so I think it is very masculine.
It’s a surname so it’s both masculine and unisex. It reminds me of [name]Declan[/name] or [name]Berlin[/name], so it sounds boyish
According to Wikipedia:
O Breaslain is a Gaelic-Irish surname, the anglicised form of which is Breslin. The epynom, Breisel, lived in the 10th/11th century, his name meaning violent, truculent.
If I heard Breslin, I would think girl because of [name]Abigail[/name] Breslin and the lyn ending.
I think girl first, but it could work for both. I like it a lot!
My first thought was Boy, but the “lin” ending really makes it work for Girls too. I think it would work for either.
When I read Breslin I lean more towards boy, but when I hear/say it (with the “lyn” ending) I lean more towards girl. But I think it could work equally for either.
It’d be one of those that I would wait to meet the child or hear more of the context before deciding if it was referring to a boy or girl. (like the names [name]Taylor[/name] and [name]Jayden[/name], I know an equal amount of both, so I don’t jump to conclusions until finding more info)
I agree with this. Surnames are typically thought of as boy names. I think this may stem from either:
It sounds girly to me for some reason, though I can see it on a boy too…
I think Breslin sounds like a girls name but could be used for a boy if you wanted.
I’m having my own boy/girl battle. We like the name [name]Emerson[/name] for a boy but every time I see a child with that name it is a girl. Thoughts?
