I voted [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] just reading the options on the poll because I liked it beat personally. But now reading your impressions I think otherwise are a better fit.
I don’t find [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] too long or heavy. And she’ll only be a child for a short time. If it feels like too much to call her [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] call her [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and it’s no big deal.
I think [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is a great choice if you like multiple of it’s nicknames. I personally think it’s fun to choose names with multiple potential nicknames and then as they grow see what fits them.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is technically popular but since it has so many different nicknames it doesn’t feel popular because every [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is going by something different.
If it makes you feel any better about [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], it is the name of the woman who taught me Spanish in high school. She sp not lots of time for n Spanish speaking countries, was even born in one and it wasn’t problematic her name meant pink.
I also love the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a great option since you said no complaints but if there are no complaints but it’s not at the top of your listing can’t help but feel your heart isn’t really into it…
U love [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Celia[/name_f] but they seem to be on your list moreso to please your other half… I’d try to find something you’re both excited about.
Good luck.
As a spanish, I’ve met tons of Rosas (it’s a quite common name here) and it also means rose, not only the color. In fact, [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] as a name makes me think about the flower and not the color.
My two favorites are [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]
I voted for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Both are lovely first names. Familiar, should be easy to pronounce and to spell, but unlikely to have another of the name in the class. I’m not sure where you live, but where I am [name_f]Beth[/name_f]/[name_f]Bethan[/name_f]/[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is a lot more common than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. If [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is too “heavy” how about [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]? I think it’s a really pretty alternative. If you hate [name_f]Susanne[/name_f], I would advice against [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. Very similar. Would [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] be of interest, if is that too far from your style? [name_f]Celia[/name_f] is alright. Not much to say about that one
I voted for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], both such beautiful and strong names. I would prefer [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] rather than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] if that was an option.
It sounds like you’re favoring [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Both are lovely choices. Your daughter may grow up loving her colorful name if you choose [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]. It’s nice because it’s a color and flower name without being as in your face as [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I do have to say that [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is gorgeous as well, but it doesn’t seem to be a good fit for you.
I voted for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but also prefer the middle name, [name_u]Jean[/name_u], in this case. It has a better flow. Another possible nickname for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is [name_f]Sukie[/name_f]. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], to me, is a beautiful, classic name with lots of cute nicknames.
I love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]: Since there is the short form [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] that you love, I wouldn’t worry about it being too heavy on a young girl. After all, names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], all elaborate and with gravity, are worn with aplomb by people of all ages. [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my pick because of the family connection.
I like [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Violet[/name_f] in English, more of a flower than a color when it’s a name. I also like [name_f]Beth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a classic and I wouldn’t be too concerned with popularity since [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is an uncommon nickname these days. [name_f]Rosamond[/name_f] is also pretty but more elaborate than the others. I like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] too if you decide you like it.
Upon reading your own review of your combos, my vote was easy – [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. As you yourself said “lovely nickname, spunky [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and a good solid name” – “no real complaints”, next to all of the others that have concerns attached…sounds an obvious winner to me.
My favorites are [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. I’m not a fan of [name_u]Jean[/name_u], but I adore [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is such a lovely nickname.
If you love [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], I think it fits all your criteria. [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is so “namey” that I don’t think many people will think of the color first. It’s a lovely name familiar in many countries. [name_f]Rosamond[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] - Either is a winner.
I chose [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] (although I like the spelling [name_f]Rosamond[/name_f] better) as I’ve never heard [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] used on any girl, but it’s a very classic name. Like previous posters have said, [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is an intuitive nickname if you feel like the full name is too much for a little girl. If [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] still feels too heavy, perhaps [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is lighter? [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] also has the wonderful character from [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s As You Like It as a namesake.
While I love the sound of [name_u]Jean[/name_u], I much prefer the spelling of [name_f]Jeanne[/name_f] (probably because it’s the name of one of my aunts).
Most of the Elizabeths I’ve known go by [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Libby[/name_f], or just the full name. It’s the most commonly used name in my experience from your list.
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] is definitely an uncommon & classic name, & it sounds good w/[name_u]Jean[/name_u].
[name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], & [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] are NMS, & I’m not sure how popular they are at the moment; they get discussed a lot on Nameberry for sure!
Whenever I hear the term “underused classic”, my mind jumps straight to [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. It’s an absolute beautiful name, staggeringly underused but universally familiar, with lots of lovely nickname options (I love [name_f]Sukey[/name_f] and [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]).
I also love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], although they feel less “classic” and more funky/edgy old-fashioned to me.
