I think [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] has the darkest qualities of the four. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], while tragic, still has a light, springy sound, imo. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is so common, and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is elegant, but not dark.
You had me at “dark, twisted, fairytale” that’s my kind of story! I definately prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] out of all the names. I think it’s stunning and a tad dark for some reason. It’s a very compelling name, love it!
You can certainly name a female character any one of these and paint her as a twisted person, but the names themselves don’t scream “dark” to me.
Might I suggest [name_f]Amaya[/name_f]? This name literally means night rain, if I remember correctly.
Other names that sound dark (to me), but I don’t really know the meaning of are:
[name_f]Alessa[/name_f], [name_f]Amara[/name_f] & [name_f]Amirah[/name_f]: These names, along with [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], make me think of a scary little girl with long dark or pure white hair. (Yes, [name_f]Alessa[/name_f] is from Silent [name_m]Hill[/name_m] if you were wondering). Lol
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]: I can picture this on a creepy doll. I wonder where that thought came from =p
[name_f]Fae[/name_f]: I can’t picture this as dark at all, but I can see this being a quiet girl who got sucked in to the twisted-ness, maybe she’s imprisoned there.
[name_f]Jayde[/name_f]: I actually see this as more of a badass, but brooding girl. Can totally work as the main character in a dark story.
[name_f]Kali[/name_f]: KAH-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]. Definitely a villain. [name_m]Just[/name_m] seems like a dark name.
[name_f]Katarina[/name_f]: I can see this name on a beautiful, but conniving character. Like someone who lures people. On the other hand, she could be an innocent, pure girl caught in the fairytale nightmare. The name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] does mean pure, after all.
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]: Seems like it could fit and with any character.
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f]: Could be a villain. Another name that just says “dark” to me.
[name_u]Raven[/name_u] or [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f]: These are just badass, cool-sounding names like [name_f]Jayde[/name_f]. But also, there’s definitely a “darkness” factor, with the whole huge, black, scary bird raven thing.
[name_f]Rayne[/name_f]: Kind of the same as [name_f]Jayde[/name_f], but I can also see this being a villain.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]: I feel like this name could also go either way like [name_f]Katarina[/name_f].
[name_f]Samara[/name_f]: I actually think I’d group this in with the “scary little girl” names.
[name_f]Scarlette[/name_f] & [name_f]Violette[/name_f]: These names can totally fit a dark theme. They’ve always felt that way to me.
Now, I actually love all of these names, and I don’t always picture scary things when I think about them or suggest them to others. It’s just if I’m in the mindset of trying to find the creepiest things I can think of about a name, it comes out, haha.
Basically, these names are versatile on their own, but paired with a macabre storyline, I feel they’d really pack a punch.
I was only going to suggest [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], and this got way out of hand! I hope this kinda helps. Good luck with your fairytale =]
I voted for [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] sounds equally dark.
The only name that kinda sounds dark from your list is [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] imo.
