Which name do you like better for a baby boy: [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] or [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]?
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is classic, but I wonder if it has enough edge in this day & age when everyone seems to want to give their child a somewhat different/modern name. And I’m not fond of the nickname [name_u]Nick[/name_u].
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u] is a strong name and would be considered “different” in my immediate circle of family and friends, but my coworker has that name and I don’t want people to think I’m naming the baby after him. Also, [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] probably matches a bit better with his twin sister, [name_f]Kristine[/name_f].
I have mixed feelings about [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]. I love the color, do not care for hunting, so it makes me have a like, dislike to the name [name_u]Hunter[/name_u].
I love [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. I personally wouldn’t use a nickname.
I feel pretty neutral about [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] but I love [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. It doesn’t need a nickname if you don’t want to, or you most likely will find something that will pop out on it’s own whether or not it will sound like it has a direct correlation with [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. If you’re looking for something recognisable, I really like [name_u]Nico[/name_u].
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], and I agree it’s a better fit with [name_f]Kristine[/name_f].
If you want “edge” you could always choose a cool nickname for him. [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is a nice suggestion or there’s the Russian [name_m]Kolya[/name_m]. Or even go the whole hog and call him [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m], which I love!
Definitely [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]!!! [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] is overdone, tired, and reminiscent of guns and camouflage. I don’t think [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] needs a nickname, but I do love the suggestion of [name_u]Nico[/name_u]! [name_m]Cole[/name_m] might even work, too!
I like [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] more than [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] (I dislike the hunting connotation). The nickname [name_u]Nico[/name_u] feels quite fresh and modern.
I don’t have a reflexive dislike of [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], but it does feel a bit trendy and like it’s trying too hard. I love [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. While I like the nickname [name_u]Nick[/name_u], there are, as others have said, other completely usable nicknames like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u].
I agree, [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] sounds better with [name_f]Kristine[/name_f] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u] or [name_m]Cole[/name_m] make great alternative nns. personally, I don’t like [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]. I could be bias though, I know about 5 in varying age groups and I am not fond of any of them.
I prefer [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. If you want to avoid [name_u]Nick[/name_u], try encouraging a different short form, such as [name_u]Nico[/name_u], if there is one you like. It’s not an easy one, but nicknames aren’t inevitable. I guess, once your son is older, the decision is his own, though.
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. It sounds better with [name_f]Kristine[/name_f] by a mile, and if you want to use a nn there’s always [name_u]Nico[/name_u]/[name_m]Cole[/name_m]/[name_u]Neo[/name_u] or even [name_m]Niles[/name_m]
I can’t say I feel particularly strongly about either name, but with sister [name_f]Kristine[/name_f], im tempted to go with [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is a cool nickname.
I don’t have much to add, just wanted to add another voice to the opinions that a) don’t like the connotations of [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], b) prefer [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] by miles to be paired with [name_f]Kristine[/name_f], and c) like [name_u]Nico[/name_u] or [name_m]Cole[/name_m] as a nn, or no nn at all!
I guess I do have something to add–have you considered [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m], if [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] doesn’t feel fresh enough?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], hate [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]. Not a fan of blood sport. But [name_u]Nick[/name_u] is the likely nickname…
I personally love both names, but with your story I think [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is the better fit … and you could just leave it as [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], you don’t have to use [name_u]Nick[/name_u] although [name_u]Nicky[/name_u] and [name_f]Kristy[/name_f] would be cute <3
