Which is better?

I’m transgender, if you’re going to say something rude then please don’t say anything

I was going to change my name to [name_m]Colin[/name_m]. It was never official but more of a “nickname” that I used online. I went by that for maybe two years? That was the only name that I really had besides my birth one but recently…I’ve been thinking it’d be better if I had a shorter and more uncommon name? I’ve also been shortening my name to Col lately. I don’t really like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] but I like Col. I know that it’s a word but it doesn’t bother me because it’s nothing bad. I think that maybe it’s too short but my birth name is only four letters so it’s only one letter less. I’ve been wondering, is it better to keep [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and have a nickname or make Col my legal name? Because if I’m just going to go by a nickname anyway, is there a point in having a full name? That’s not rhetorical, I genuinely don’t know XD

I think you should go with [name_m]Colin[/name_m] nickname Col. Good luck!

I love the name [name_m]Colin[/name_m] with the nickname Col!

I’m not sure if this is too much of a stretch for you, but you could use the nickname Col for [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]/[name_m]Nicolas[/name_m]/[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]/[name_m]Nikolai[/name_m].

Anyways, good luck! I hope this helped.

I love [name_m]Colin[/name_m]! It’s a lovely name, and Col is a great nickname. I think it’s a good idea to use [name_m]Colin[/name_m] as a legal name because you have the versatility then to use both [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and Col - you can use the short and cool name in some situations and the longer and more formal one in others. Best of luck with the name change

[name_m]Colin[/name_m] with the nickname Col is cute

Agreed, make the legal name [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and go by Col. My brother is a trans boy and his name is [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], but we have tons of weird nicknames for him. That said, it’s way better for him to be able to eventually change his name to [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], go by that in public, and go by [name_m]Hoy[/name_m] or Hoog or Hug (hyoog) or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] at home.
