I’m naming a non-binary character in my story. I have it down to two names, but I’m very indecisive and can’t choose. It’s between [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] and [name_m]Virgil[/name_m]. Which one sounds better to you and why do you prefer that one? I’ll pick either the one with more votes in the replies or one I see really good or interesting reasoning for
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. a) because I like it, and b) because [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] feels like a one-person-name, it’s the ancient latin writer [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] and no one else.
I also like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]!
Nonbinary people don’t have to have unisex names, but I know a lot who do. And [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] sounds very masculine to me. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is masculine too of course, but the [name_f]Em[/name_f]- part 1) sounds softer 2) is well-loved for girls right now which makes it sound more unisex
Plus it’s a very attractive name
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] for me, too! I agree with PP, it’s very attractive, softer, and closer to being unisex than [name_m]Virgil[/name_m]. And it has a modern kick to it too! So if your story is set in the modern day, it’s just perfect. [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] comes to me as an older person’s name and reminds me of [name_m]Dante[/name_m] Alighieri’s Inferno.
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] because it’s softer than [name_m]Virgil[/name_m] and could be considered to be less masculine.
