Which is your favourite from our top 4?

Our shortlist for boys:

[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jake[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_m]Brodie[/name_m]

What do you think of these names, and which is your favourite?

Thanks!

I like [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] and [name_m]Jake[/name_m] ([name_m]Jacob[/name_m]). [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] seems a little stuffy to me, and [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] still makes me think of the ghost. Without that association, it’d probably be my favorite!

Definitely [name_m]Jake[/name_m]!

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] is definitely my favourite of the four – easily recognisable, yet a little offbeat. It’s great.

I love [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]!!

[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jake[/name_m] - I would use [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] as the full name, this is my favorite out of your list.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - Not a bad name, it’s just sort of quiet?? It seems to lack substance
[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] - It’s okay, just not really my favorite
[name_m]Brodie[/name_m] - Feels too 90s/00s/frat boy to me

Definitely [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], followed by [name_m]Jake[/name_m]. I can’t say I like [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], although I do love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]!

I like [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] best - that Scandinavian feel, sleek and stylish. I like the double A spelling - based on the traditional Persian version ( ) [name_m]Gaspar[/name_m]?? I will have to check on that! You may have to correct on spelling for a while but as a holder of an alternatively spelled name myself - I learned to embrace it early and now I love that it sets me apart a bit. Yes adults may mention the ghost association, but other kids his age won’t know it! It’s not a negative association either, so I wouldn’t worry about that aspect of the name - it’s gorgeous.

My second favourite is [name_m]Brodie[/name_m]. It’s known but not common and has that Gaelic flair without the difficult spelling. Yes you can spell it with a Y but I like the traditional IE and I think most people will assume IE first over the Y.

[name_m]Brodie[/name_m] only just wins out over [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] for me though!
Mainly because I feel that [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is just a little insubstantial in sound - no hard edges if you know what I mean! This is partly based on pairing with my surname in my head though, (ending in O) it lacks enough interest for me sound-wise. If you have a longer surname with lots of consonants, [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] would probably pair beautifully!
I personally prefer [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] to [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - more oomph!

[name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is very nice but a bit too common for me - I think I had at least 4 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]'s in my year at school! Not a fan of [name_m]Jake[/name_m] as a given name though, not my style. [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is a lovely classic name however, so really can’t fault any of these options!

All the best with your choice

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] is ok but his name is going to be misspelled all the time (as [name_m]CasPER[/name_m])

I love [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] but from the look of your other names, this doesn’t seem to fit you and your partner’s tastes!

Maybe [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] would fit your family better.

Good luck!

I love [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], I do agree that people will constantly misspell his name. I have a name I constantly have to correct and it can get annoying at times, but I do really love my name so obviously it isn’t a huge deal.

[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is my second favorite.

Definitely [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]! [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jake[/name_m] is boring and dated to me. [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is very dad, like [name_m]Mark[/name_m] or [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] is just not a name that I like at all, maybe because it feels bro-ish, since it has the word bro in it, and also reminds me of jerks talking about spinning brodies in the parking lot etc. I also just in general dislike the sound.

I always liked [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jake[/name_m]. It’s a classic with a cool, masculine nickname… however, it’s EXTREMELY popular where I find it quite boring. It’s unfortunate since it is a great name, but I just hear it a lot.

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]… yeah, still think of the ghost but even without that, it just doesn’t feel masculine to me. And no real nickname alternative.

[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is different. I could totally see it becoming a British “old man” name making a comeback where it’s suddenly super cool like [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Ned[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u].

[name_m]Brodie[/name_m] definitely gives me the mimbo/frat boy/surfer dude vibe… not loving it.

Consider:
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]/[name_m]Bodie[/name_m]

I think these are great options to choose from.

It depends on what you want… I love [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], however, I come across many kids/adults with this name, it’s a very safe/comfortable name choice.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is also amazing, it’s very classic and handsome, yet very understated…
Similarity to [name_m]Casper[/name_m], yet [name_m]Casper[/name_m] has started to raise in popularity recently. I find [name_m]Casper[/name_m] to have a friendly, vintage vibe.
[name_m]Brodie[/name_m] has a cuteness factor to it, it sounds very nicknamey to me (which isnt my style).

[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is my favourite! Simple, known, soft but strong
[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] is second. Very handsome, great sound.

[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/[name_m]Jake[/name_m] is blah to me.
[name_m]Brodie[/name_m] I’m not a fan of, it’s the “bro”. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Grady[/name_u]?

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] are my favourites, though I don’t like [name_m]Jake[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m].

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]- [name_m]Jake[/name_m]- timeless classic

I can’t pick between [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] … I love them together, too. [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] are both lovely.

My favourite is [name_m]Jake[/name_m] ([name_m]Jacob[/name_m]). Such a handsome name. I also like [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].

[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]! But I prefer [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] more :slightly_smiling_face:
