  • Lucius (Louis): 15 (24%)

I considered [name]Rufus[/name] for a while, even when everyone I mentioned it to said it sounds like a dog’s name. My husband finally convinced me that the nickname “Rufie” would probably be unavoidable. I don’t think Rufie is an appropriate nickname for a child, since it is also a colloquial term for a drug.

[name]Atticus[/name]= To Kill A Mockingbird, whether you want it to or not. If you do, then it’s perfect. If not, I would consider one of your other choices.

[name]Lucius[/name] is too closely linked to [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], for me. [name]Lucius[/name] Malfoy is a bit unsavory to me, but that’s just one association. Considering it’s not a very familiar name, though, I’m not sure how many other associations there are.

I think [name]Fergus[/name] is the best. It’s not my favorite “[name]Gus[/name]” name, but I do love [name]Gus[/name] very much.

I voted [name]Lucius[/name], though I think [name]Louie[/name] makes more sense as a [name]Lucius[/name] nickname than [name]Louis[/name]. [name]Louis[/name] is a full name in itself, not nickname material, if you ask me.

[name]Rufus[/name] is also really irresistible, and great with [name]Beresford[/name].

[name]Fergus[/name] makes me think of haggis. [name]Atticus[/name] feels trendy/macho to me.

As much as I dislike [name]Atticus[/name], I love the nickname [name]Kit[/name]. I vote [name]Rufus[/name].

Wow!! Thank you for suggestion of nn [name]Kit[/name]… I love it too and it’s been bothering me that I couldn’t find a nn for [name]Atticus[/name] that I loved!!

My vote was for [name]Rufus[/name]. I love the “rumpled, rugged” feel of it. In the movie Never Been Kissed (love [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore!) it was used as a term meaning the ultimate in cool. I know that’s a relatively obscure pop reference, but it is one of the things that I thought of when I read your list.

And I agree about associating [name]Atticus[/name] with To Kill a Mockingbird. He’s a very admirable character so I think he is definitely worth naming your child after. Or at least not avoiding it because of the association. [name]Atticus[/name] would be a close second for me.

[name]Rufus[/name]! I love [name]Rufus[/name]. I wouldn’t use Rufie though, because it sounds a lot like the drug, roofies. Ru would be a cute nickname!

I voted for [name]Lucius[/name] because I love the names [name]Louis[/name] and [name]Lucas[/name].

I had a very hard time choosing between [name]Fergus[/name] and [name]Lucius[/name], but I choose [name]Lucius[/name]. I don’t feel like these names need nicknames. I honestly don’t like nicknames, especially if the name is as nice as [name]Lucius[/name] or [name]Fergus[/name]!

I love [name]Rufus[/name], love it. We had loved [name]Atticus[/name] back when I was pregnant with B but feel its kind of trendy now for my taste. (Says the woman with a [name]Violet[/name], lol) I have never been a fan of “Ferg” names, I think back to [name]Clarissa[/name] Explains It All and imagine [name]Melissa[/name] [name]Joan[/name] [name]Hart[/name] saying “Ferg Breath” etc. I don’t like [name]Lucius[/name]. I do love [name]Linus[/name] of course.

I voted for [name]Rufus[/name]. These technically aren’t all “us” names, but I have these on my list: [name]Amias[/name], [name]Erastus[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Linus[/name], [name]Ozias[/name], and [name]Silas[/name].
