Why isn’t [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] usable in Queensland?

It’s not so much Queensland but FNQ. I live near Cairns in a rural area where everyone knows everyone :stuck_out_tongue: It’s a rather conservative environment here and the kids are rather judgemental. Because there are few kids, anyone who’s different would be easily distinguished and it’s just not fair to give a child a name [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] up here. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is adventurous and spunky, but names like this are basically unheard of up here and when I mentioned it to my friends, they thought I was joking.

If I end up moving to [name_f]England[/name_f] or [name_m]Wales[/name_m] or a larger city in Aus like I plan to, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] will be added back on. But till then, I think it’s just best to let it lie.

:stuck_out_tongue:

[name_f]Eva[/name_f] gets my vote. She’s such a simple, classy yet sweet little dear.

Pity you feel you can’t use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - it’s lovely. I’m in the South [name_f]East[/name_f] and I’ve met a couple of young [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]'s, neither of which anyone batted an eyelid at as being too out-there/strange (compared to some, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]'s so very tame). It’s strange and upsetting really how opinions on names can differ so much within one state, huh?

TBH IMHO I think [name_m]Walter[/name_m] is far less usable that [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
I think just use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]- it’s easy to say and spell yet so spunky and cool.
I prefer it to all of your other names (except [name_f]Rose[/name_f]!) Sisters [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]!! I love it!

Haha, I definitely agree about it being upsetting. I think in cities or near cities names like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and other names that are more “out there” are more accepted because there are just more people from different cultures. It makes people more accepting of things like that.

But I may be wrong in my assumptions.

I do somewhat understand how rural/country people can see most nontraditional/even slightly obscure names as odd and can judge a person or family on the choice (people that name their own kids [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]William[/name_m] etc, which of course are great names, but predictable and straightforward/no nonsense). Ridiculous I think and it totally sucks. That said, I grew up in a very small rural town down here where everyone knew everyone, and two year old [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (with big brother [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]) never sat on that ledge as odd. But, the main thing is that if it makes you uncomfortable and unsure, then it’s probably a good sign to move on to something else…[name_f]Eva[/name_f], perhaps.

I chose [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]/ [name_f]Eva[/name_f] & [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. However, I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] more than [name_f]Eva[/name_f] & I also like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but not [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. So, it was a tough poll lol!

I equally love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

I adore [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and [name_f]Edie[/name_f].

You have great taste! I love all your boy names, and you have great girl names, too! I love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f]…

Oh that’s disappointing - I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. I think it’s a great name. I hope one day you find yourself with an opportunity to use it!

I also like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
