So after I saw that [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] Kardashian named her daughter [name_u]True[/name_u] I started wondering whether names like [name_u]North[/name_u], Dream, Chicago, Stormi, and [name_u]True[/name_u] are names only celebrities can pull off. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know anyone with these names and in order which do you think is most usuable in normal everyday life (for people that arent famous)?
I think Stormi is the safest out of the bunch. I was shocked to see how many people have that name after [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] announced it.
Then [name_u]True[/name_u], it seems like to much of a word for me to love it. Plus every time I say it I keeping thinking drew…
followed by [name_u]North[/name_u], Dream and Chicago…neither Chicago or Dream really seem like they pass that line from word to name Chicago really doesnt.
I am a big word name fan my daughter has a word name that I love, but I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
What do you think about each name and how wearable they are?

They definitely love word names!
I actually like [name_u]True[/name_u] the most. Stormi is a bit too cutesy but then also has negative connotations.
I would rank the names (not the children haha) [name_u]True[/name_u], [name_u]Dream[/name_u] (bit strange but nice imagery), Stormi, Chicago, [name_u]North[/name_u](not a name :p).
None of them are wearable in my opinion, with [name_u]North[/name_u] and Chicago coming in dead last - [name_u]North[/name_u] is unappealing as a word, let alone a name for either sex (along with [name_m]Saint[/name_m] and Sir) and Chicago is just bizarre.
Stormi is too closely linked to the ubiquitous [name_f]Stormy[/name_f] [name_m]Daniels[/name_m] these days so I would never saddle my daughter with that moniker.
I do know someone that named their daughter [name_u]True[/name_u] about 25 years ago. Thought is was weird then, and still think so. But I am not a fan of “virtue” names.
I’ve known a number of girls named [name_f]Stormy[/name_f]/Stormi and so I agree that one seems the most wearable.
[name_u]True[/name_u] I’ve seen more often as a nn ([name_m]Tru[/name_m]/[name_u]True[/name_u]) but that definitely makes it less eyebrow raising.
[name_u]North[/name_u], while being a bit of an unconventional word name, contains sound parts that are among many popular, familiar, and classic names. To me [name_u]North[/name_u] and [name_u]True[/name_u] are both tied for wearability under Stormi.
Chicago is definitely the hardest to pull off. Place names aren’t that uncommon but Chicago has a particular combination of sounds happening that don’t make it the most appealing. Is it terrible? No. But I wouldn’t use it and I think it’s a scarcely used place name for a reason.
And I feel like [name_u]Dream[/name_u], [name_m]Saint[/name_m], and Sir are all as wearable or less wearable than Chicago, though I could see some people advocating for [name_u]Dream[/name_u].
I completely forgot about [name_u]Dream[/name_u]…I lump [name_u]Dream[/name_u] and Chicago into the same category they aren’t jumping out as names to me so I think they are probably the least usable…
[name_f]Kourtney[/name_f] nailed it with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] in my opinion… next would be Stormi, then [name_u]True[/name_u] for names that are remotely useable.
I think kourtney did well when she named [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but it’s actually considered a usable name. The others are more controversial which is why I purposely left [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] out.
I actually like [name_u]North[/name_u] a lot, but as a middle name for a boy. I don’t like it as a girls’ first name
I think the next most wearable is [name_u]True[/name_u].
I was literally just talking to my friend about how the kardashian/Jenners really like word names! [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is the only one whose name isn’t a word.
For me, [name_u]True[/name_u] is actually my favorite of the bunch. Reminds me of the old Nickelodeon show [name_u]True[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] VP, so I can see the name working on a teenager (a teenager who is VP at a fashion company, since that was what the show was about). I’d have a difficult time using it outside the middle spot though.
I love [name_u]Storm[/name_u] but dislike Stormi. It’s too cutesy for me and the current [name_f]Stormy[/name_f] [name_m]Daniels[/name_m] situation throws me off. I like [name_u]Storm[/name_u] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] though so she’s a nice namesake for just [name_u]Storm[/name_u].
[name_u]Dream[/name_u] and [name_m]Saint[/name_m] are GPs of mine but I wouldn’t even use them as middles. [name_u]North[/name_u] is okay, not really my style. I dislike [name_u]Reign[/name_u], Chicago, and [name_u]Mason[/name_u] (and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], for that matter).
I feel that people are unnecessarily harsh on celebrity baby names.

I quite like word names, generally. My favourite of the bunch (excluding [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]) is [name_u]North[/name_u]: I like how short and simple it is (and I’ve also been reading a book with a character called [name_u]North[/name_u], so that association’s helped). Following [name_u]North[/name_u] would be [name_u]True[/name_u] (which I like, but more as a nickname or middle name) and then Stormi, which I’m just not a fan of but I think is more wearable than [name_u]Dream[/name_u] or Chicago, which cross the line for me.
Gosh, all of these are not my cup of tea if I’m being honest. Of them, I think the easiest to wear would probably be [name_u]True[/name_u]. Simple and positive meaning. I’d like it more if it were just a nickname.
I like many word names just not… these particular ones, I guess! I think Chicago is the hardest to wear. The sound is very unappealing.
I think they are all as hideous as their parents. I much prefer nameberry birth announcement names to any celebrity names.
Really not a fan of these names, but I don’t mind [name_u]True[/name_u]. It sounds like an unusual but nice name to me - along the same lines as [name_f]Rumer[/name_f] or [name_u]Scout[/name_u] ([name_f]Demi[/name_f] [name_m]Moore[/name_m]'s daughters.) It definitely stands above the others as wearable for me.
I know of two women named [name_u]Storm[/name_u] (singer [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] Keating’s wife, and a young Australian tennis player [name_u]Storm[/name_u] [name_m]Sanders[/name_m]) so that is unusual but wearable, while Stormi/[name_f]Stormy[/name_f] just sounds a bit ridiculous to me. I’d never heard of the name until recent news events.
[name_u]North[/name_u], [name_u]Dream[/name_u] and Chicago don’t seem wearable to me, maybe [name_u]North[/name_u] for a boy. I admit I think [name_u]North[/name_u] for a girl is quite quirky and fun, but it feels more like a name for a fantasy novel, not really wearable for real life, plus there are just so many other great names out there. These names are designed to stand out and get attention - and they fit that bill!
[name_u]True[/name_u] was the first name of [name_f]Khloe[/name_f]'s great-grandfather, which makes me like it a lot more.
Stormi is definitely a name with negative connotations, but at least it’s recognizable as a name, as opposed to Chicago.
I think I’m in the minority that really like Stormi. My middle name was almost [name_u]Storm[/name_u], so I might be biased.
I like [name_u]True[/name_u] a lot as well. I like that they are saying they will call Chicago “[name_f]Chi[/name_f]”, but they also said they’d call [name_u]North[/name_u] “[name_u]Nori[/name_u]” (as a combination of [name_u]Kim[/name_u] and [name_m]Kanye[/name_m]'s middle names, [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] and [name_u]Omari[/name_u]) and that didn’t end up happening.
In order I probably rank them;
Stormi
[name_u]True[/name_u]
[name_u]North[/name_u]
Chicago
My brother has a friend whose oldest son is [name_u]North[/name_u]…he was named at least a decade & probably more ago, so predating any Kardashian frenzy. IIRC the connotation was “true north.”
First of all, I love that this is a thread because I’m slightly obsessed with the Kardashian names! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time one of them has a child, I get so excited as to what they are going to be named.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is my favorite name amongst the granddaughters. I think that this is the most wearable of the granddaughter’s first names and it could be the fact that it is an actual first name. I think this would be the only one that I would actually use for a future daughter.
Stormi would be my next favorite out of the girl names. I think that it’s super girly and cute. Not sure if I would ever use Stormi as a first name though.
[name_u]North[/name_u] would be my next favorite. I like what the name means to [name_u]Kim[/name_u] and [name_m]Kanye[/name_m]. I like that it stands for something and not just a random word that they decided to use as a first name. And [name_u]Nori[/name_u] is just the cutest nickname!
[name_u]True[/name_u] is next! When I first found out that [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] named her daughter [name_u]True[/name_u] this afternoon, I was like are you serious lol but after reading [name_u]Kris[/name_u]'s Instagram post, I like that it has a family meaning behind it!
And I’m not sure how I feel about Chicago and [name_u]Dream[/name_u]. I do like that they call Chicago “[name_f]Chi[/name_f]” which is super cute, but I just don’t see Chicago being a city that can also work as a name. And [name_u]Dream[/name_u] is at the bottom.
I think a like more Chicago that names like [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] or Jessalynn or [name_f]Kailee[/name_f]. I do not understand how [name_f]Faith[/name_f] is a name but [name_u]Dream[/name_u] is not. As [name_u]West[/name_u] is an acceptable name and [name_u]North[/name_u] does not. I think Americans invent a lot that can be a name more than Spanish speakers and then they come up with something that is not a name. You are rare.

My least favorite by far is Chicago. The sound is just super unappealing to me, especially on a girl. The nn Chi pronounced Shy doesn’t make sense to me either. I’ve always said/heard the first syllable “Ch” being pronouced more like the “sh” in shirt, and I live not far away from the city itself. I also don’t find Dream wearable at all. True is strange, but I can see it working. As for Stormi, I know a few older Storms so it actually feels a little dated to me.
I actually really like North, though. I love it’s meaning as well as how strong it sounds. And it feels familiar due to its similarity to Noor (the nn Nori is adorable as well!).
