Hi everyone! I don’t think it’s any secret that I love girls’ names starting with m. Please choose your favorites, and, if you have the time, please tell me why you chose what you did. A few of the names are listed in the poll twice because I haven’t decided which spelling or combination I prefer.
- Molly
- Molly Kate
- Maia
- Maya
- Marlo
- Madeline
- I don’t like any of these names
Any other suggestions you may have are more than welcome!
Thank you so much!
I prefer [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] / [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] over [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] - feels more complete. I also like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but don’t mind your spelling.
I’m loving [name_f]Mary[/name_f] these days - [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] nn [name_f]Molly[/name_f] could be sweet.
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is another M name I’m drawn to.

I chose [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] because of your options, it feels like the one that is most classic and least nicknamey.
M names I love include:
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Mairead[/name_f]

From your list, I like Molly & Marlo best!
Also, these are nearly exactly my thoughts:
The spellings I prefer for these names are Marlowe & Madelaine. (I like the pronunciation “mad-eh-len”, rather than “mad-eh-line”.)

[name_u]Marlo[/name_u] is my favourite - cool, bright and charming! I like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] too.
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is sleek and pretty; [name_f]Maia[/name_f] is bright and lovely.
I’d add in the suggestions of [name_f]Melody[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f]

I voted [name_f]Maia[/name_f] pronounced May-a rather than [name_f]Mya[/name_f].

@EloiseT Thank you so much! I don’t have a preference on the spelling of [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] yet actually! That was just one that I saw recently and thought was cute. It made me notice and like the name.
There are so many beautiful spellings of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] too. I’m always afraid I’ll misspell it. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] feel most intuitive to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] preferred pronunciation is the -lyn ending. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the -line ending, but I feel like it sounds harsh when I pronounce it that way. But it is a name that sounds beautiful to me regardless of how others pronounce it. I feel that way about my pronunciation of many names.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a beautiful name! It is very special to me as it was my maternal grandmother’s name. However, it is not one that I feel I could pull off myself. I am working to find the perfect way to honor her, my parents, other grandparents, and possibly my brother through my future children’s names.
I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] so much too!
Thank you again!

@Northern1 Thank you so much! [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_u]Marlo[/name_u] are so cute! I am still deciding on my preferred spellings of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_u]Marlo[/name_u]. I do like your preferred pronunciation of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. I feel like my personal pronunciation of “mad-eh-line” is off. I think it’s beautiful when others pronounce it that way though!
Thank you again!

@tori101 I’m sorry it’s a no for you! At this point in time, I don’t know any Mayas well enough to be discouraged from using the name in the future. I also think it is a little bit classic in that it seems to work well on all ages.
Plus I think [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] would be a cute sibling set!
Thank you again!
@sunflowerbelle Thank you so much! I always forget about [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]! [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are adorable too.
Thank you again!
I chose [name_f]Molly[/name_f] because it’s super cute and vintage. Plus it’s adorable with [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].
[name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Maebelle[/name_f] would also be super cute with [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Maya[/name_f], purely because of the fact I love the vibe in my head it gives me. It’s pretty versatile, as I can picture both a young dainty girl at a fancy picnic in a woodland, and somebody who will fight for what she wants, and a pretty lively character overall.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] I’m a bit biased towards, as I have a cat named [name_f]Mollie[/name_f]. She’s either the laziest cat or the liveliest cat you’ll meet, and that’s why I love her and the name.
