I think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is so handsome! My second choice would be [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Fredrick[/name_m]
I was starting to think I’d dreamed up this thread, it was all the way back on page three! There’s some serious action in the boy forum at the moment.
I want [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]'s middle name to be fun and cool. These are my favourites:
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Crispin[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Percival[/name_m]
But then I read your comments. So I’m taking [name_m]Crispin[/name_m] away, and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and there was no comments on [name_m]Percival[/name_m] which makes me think you’re kind of lukewarm about the whole thing…
And then I saw [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]. [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] is not exactly fun but I love the significance it holds for you. Chopin is one of my favourites as well, his music is beautiful. And then I thought; [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women! [name_m]How[/name_m] amazing is [name_m]Friedrich[/name_m]? I’m not suggesting you should use the [name_m]German[/name_m] spelling, but it’s the same name. So I’m throwing my vote for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] (I like the Polish spelling as well). Or… you could use Chopin. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Chopin sounds dashing.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] jumped out at me! I also like the long fn with the shorter [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] and [name_m]Crispin[/name_m]. While I like the names themselves, the only combos I don’t like are [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Percival[/name_m] (Der-[name_m]Per[/name_m]), [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] (yeah, those Greats are a bit much! :)) and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] (Der-Der).
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] stand out the most to me. I don’t think there will be a problem with [name_f]Theophania[/name_f] and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] if you kept [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] in the middle name slot.
@ottilie: No, we’re not lukewarm on [name_m]Percival[/name_m]; we like him very much! There just didn’t seem to be anything to say about him.
Oh, my, [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women! My sister and I actually have LW related names – I’m a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], nicknamed [name_f]Meg[/name_f], and she’s [name_f]Laura[/name_f], after [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]” [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] – so [name_m]Friedrich[/name_m] would be a nice way to carry on that tradition. (Not to mention, Professor Bhaer was one of my favorite characters in the book. Yeah, I never cared about [name_u]Jo[/name_u] ending up with [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]; the professor was more my type. :)) It would also take care of the Der-Der thing [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] pointed out. I’ll bring it up with hubby later tonight and see what he thinks.
@misha - Oh, man, I never even noticed the Der-[name_m]Per[/name_m] and Der-Der! That does give me pause, especially with [name_m]Percival[/name_m]. At least with [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], there’s a syllable between them, so I don’t think it’s quite as noticeable. Thanks for pointing it out, though.
I agree with [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]! I love [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]. For what it’s worth, I say Frederic with a silent ‘e’ in the middle, so it sounds like Fred-ric.
I asked DH about [name_m]Friedrich[/name_m]. He’s open to the idea, but likes [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]/k better.
And now I’m not really sure about any of these names any more. The only one I love unabashedly with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is [name_m]Crispin[/name_m]; I just wish DH liked it more! ([name_m]Solomon[/name_m] would be good, too, but in that case, I wish I liked it more!) This is so tough… I love [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] because it contains a lot of the sounds I find appealing in names, but that also makes it difficult to decide on a middle, since those sounds tend to show up in the other names we love! (Or conflict with other names in the possible sibset.)
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is my favorite by far. Something about [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] together (even as middle names) is perfect to me. [name_m]William[/name_m] has [name_m]William[/name_m] the Conqueror and [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] radiates power and energy, so I don’t think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is too much with [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]. Not at all. I actually love that the names are so powerful without being aggressively masculine.
I love the meaning [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] has to you, but with your son’s name and the other potential middles on your list? [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] just feels so normal next to [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], [name_f]Theophania[/name_f], and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I could get behind [name_m]Valentin[/name_m] too.
I’m totally with you on [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - “rich/blessed guard of peace” - is one of my favorite ideas for a boy. I think pairing [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] with [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is what made me fall for it so hard.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] was my first choice but [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] flows just a tad better.
