[name]Hi[/name] guys! I’m trying to get some combos working together from the names that my OH approved, and the first two “first names” we have are [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name]. So, if you would, please pick the combo you think works best for both. [name]Feel[/name] free to explain your choice
[name]Elder[/name] sister’s name would likely be Sansa Nanami, if you want something to match it to.
I love [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Cecily[/name], though they both are very different in style than Sansa Nanami. HTH!
ladyhope: I think I’ve come to the conclusion that Sansa Nanami will be a one of its kind combination. [name]Love[/name] it, but most of our other favorites fall more in the old-fashioned sector. So we might just end up with this discrepancy no matter what we do!
I like [name]Agnes[/name] as a first because: 1. I personally adore the name and have it on “my list” and 2. I think it sounds nicer with Sansa.
I too like [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Paloma[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] if you want to pair [name]Agnes[/name] with a sophisticated, worldly middle. And [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] if you’re looking for something to “lighten” the seriousness of [name]Agnes[/name].
Also, are you looking for another Japanese middle name? [name]May[/name] I suggest…?
[name]Agnes[/name] Emiko (beautiful/smiling child)
[name]Agnes[/name] Mayuri (actually it means peacock, is feminine, comes from Sanskrit, but it sounds vaguely Japanese)
[name]Agnes[/name] Rumi (beautiful or lapis luzuli)
jyoti: Thanks I appreciate the suggestions too. I had [name]Rui[/name] on my list before, but it got nixed by OH for pronunciation issues. So I’m wondering if Rumi might get a thumbs up; the “m” in it makes it seem more straight-forward. I also like Emiko and Mayuri.
I agree that [name]Agnes[/name] fits better with Sansa and like the idea of a Japanese middle name to kind of tie the names together (the names above are great). Using [name]Agnes[/name] Rumi would give a nice tie to [name]Sana[/name] Nanami. From your list, I like [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Indira[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] best.
So far as Japanese middle names go, there are some I like, but I haven’t gone over all my favorites with my OH. The ones that are approved so far include Nanami (for Sansa’s MN), Kana, [name]Hanako[/name], Mizuki, & Izumi.
Some ones I like myself are: [name]Akira[/name], Asuna/Asuka, Ayano, Fuuro, Haruka, Hinata, Isaye, Manatsu, Miharu, [name]Rin[/name], and Yuuna.
I like [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]. According to nameberry, [name]Senga[/name] is the Scottish form of [name]Agnes[/name]. Maybe that would fit better stylistically with Sansa? Or maybe it’s too matchy-matchy?
Also, I actually think it’s okay I’d they don’t “go together” as long as all of your children’s names don’t “match.” For example, if someone had children named [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]James[/name], and McKynlee, that wouldn’t seem right. But if they’re all completely unique and different from one another, I think it can be okay.
For me, [name]Senga[/name] would be a little too matchy even though it’s cute. For example, a name I’ve been liking lately is [name]Sunniva[/name] but I don’t think I could use it because Sansa also starts with S, ends in A, and has an N in the middle.
I think that’s how my thoughts are turning, too, that it can be okay if they sort of each make their own statement. That might be nice, in a way!
[name]Adelaide[/name] is more contemporary than [name]Agnes[/name], but it still feels a little buttoned up. I would choose one of the more whimsical middle names.
[name]Agnes[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] - [name]Cecily[/name] isn’t really upbeat and modern, but I love this combo
[name]Agnes[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name] [name]Indira[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name] [name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name] Mizuki
For [name]Agnes[/name], I would choose something more upbeat and modern to balance [name]Agnes[/name]’ dustier feel.
I like [name]Adelaide[/name] Mizuki, [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Marina[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] Mizuki.
As for other Japanese middles (if big sister is going to have a gorgeous Japanese middle, then the little one should too), I think [name]Michiko[/name] is the loveliest, I’ve always absolutely adored it and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Michiko[/name] would sound great. Yuriko, [name]Yuki[/name] and Miyu are also adorable names.
If you [name]DO[/name] want the names to go together in some way, it doesn’t have to be the way the names look or sound or what culture they come from. You could look for names with similar meanings. Or, since the name Sansa comes from a character in a book, maybe your other names could be literary references as well.
Also, even though [name]Sunniva[/name] has many of the same letters as Sansa, they don’t sound the same or matchy to me. I think [name]Sunniva[/name] is really nice. I had never heard of it before.
[name]Agnes[/name] [name]Eulalie[/name] is my favorite. It sounds so great next to Sansa Nanami, and makes so much sense. [name]Adelaide[/name] just doesn’t make sense at all next to Sansa. I see it as stuffy to go-with-the-flow. [name]Agnes[/name] has been seen as a hard name for a long time, but I see it as chic and booky, but when paired with [name]Eulalie[/name], its really creative and care-free, just like Sansa Nanami.
southern.maple: I like how you put it about the middle names’ feel balancing the first names. That’s a good idea, something I hadn’t given much thought to.
shvibziks: [name]Michiko[/name] is a beautiful name. I find most Japanese girl names lovely, which while giving me many to choose from, makes it hard to narrow down my favorites, haha!
thatkathryngirl: I don’t think I need them to go together 100% but I’ll admit I do like when there’s something bridging sibling’s names (when it’s somewhat subtle). For example, on the boys’ side of things, one sibling set I liked was to have two boys named Léo Shinobu & [name]Alfred[/name] [name]March[/name]. The middle names went together to me because Shinobu means “enduring” and [name]March[/name] reminds me of marching on, or keeping on with life… so the meanings are complementary in a way.
Sansa, meaning wise, I’m not clear on. I heard it first in the novels, but I can’t seem to track down a definite name meaning. The only thing I have run across is it being related to the name [name]Sancha[/name], meaning pious/holy. Which as meanings go, doesn’t really do much for either of us (not atheist, but not religious either). But, perhaps, a name with a light meaning, like [name]Lucia[/name]? For some reason religion-related things remind me of “light.”
[name]Sunniva[/name] I just came across on this site, so I don’t know a lot about it yet. I’ve been pronouncing it soo-nee-vuh, but I’m not even sure that’s correct.
liviajoan: Thanks! I am partial to [name]Eulalie[/name]. It sounds so quirky and cute to me, and the name meaning, “Well-spoken” is wonderful. That’s something that’s important to me.
