Wow. It was hard to choose. I liked [name]Jessamine[/name], but any would work. Other favs would be: [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Louisa[/name] (I also like [name]Lucia[/name]), and [name]Lucille[/name].
So hard to choose! I like them all (except Nightengale, which, to be honest, seems utterly ridiculous as a name). I voted for [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Louisa[/name], but I also love [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Susannah[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name] (maybe too flowery, though?).
I voted for [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Matilda[/name], because I think the flow is utterly fantastic, and [name]Matilda[/name] is lovely. The three-syllable names seem to have the best flow.
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] is a little V-heavy, in my opinion, although it is a lovely name. And I actually think Nightingale is awesome, but with [name]Ivy[/name] it sounds a little bit too comic book villian (the darker feel of Nightingale makes me think ‘poison ivy’).
Thanks for your votes and replies so far, Nameberries! @linz2 - Thank you for the suggestion of [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] ( I love [name]Lucia[/name] so how I missed it is beyond me). @irisrose - [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] is lovely, isn’t it? [name]Louisa[/name] was chosen in honour of my mother. Nightengale is associated with nurse [name]Florence[/name] whom I heard so much about while growing up. I admit it is over the top even for me. @auburn - I have a soft spot for 3-syllable names paired with [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] is one of my faves. It’s just so hard to narrow it down. Oh, [name]Ivy[/name] Nightengale as a comic book character!!! Thanks for making me laugh
Keep voting, Nameberries and I would love to hear more suggestions for [name]Ivy[/name]'s middle names!
There was a method to my vote, and maybe I thought a bit too much about it, but I wanted to get it right. [name]Ivy[/name]'s a word, so another word name would make it too noun-y- so no Nightengale. It’s botanical, so I eliminated the floral [name]Jessamine[/name]. It’s one syllable, but only three letters, so I felt it needed a longer (3 syllable+) middle; so long to [name]Claire[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Lucille[/name]. That left me with [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], and [name]Susannah[/name]. [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a bit of a filler, so I knocked that, though it is lovely with [name]Ivy[/name]. [name]Matilda[/name] to me is very clunky, and while [name]Ivy[/name] is very vowel-y, it’s all long vowels. I thought that made the combo seem a little graceless, so I knocked that. The repeating e’s in [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] sounded a bit rhyme-y to me, so I knocked that. The repeating v’s with [name]Genevieve[/name] sounded a bit odd to me because they’re in the same place- right before a long e. So I was left with [name]Susannah[/name], which I think is absolutely perfect. [name]Claire[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name] also sound great with [name]Ivy[/name], but I think [name]Susannah[/name] is the absolute best option out there.
@daisy451 - Oh, thank you for your careful, thoughtful and detailed analysis. I like the way your mind works! [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] does flow well.
The first thing that popped into my head when I read the title of your post was [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Louisa[/name], so that clearly needed my vote! I was so surprised to see it on your list, and it’s just such a beautiful combination.
@rosealexandra - Your choice [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] is now in second! @isaberry - It looks like your vote helped put [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] on top so far!
Thanks to all of you who voted. This is my first poll and it’s very exciting to see how it will end up. It feels like going to the horse races…they’re at the post…and they’re off! Keep the votes, replies and suggestions coming.
Right now, [name]Ivy[/name] Nightengale and [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] are toast!
