Which name? Baby is due in 4 Weeks đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«

Hello everyone,

Our second daughter is due in 4 weeks, and we are still undecided on which name to choose. It’s worth mentioning that our two-year-old daughter is named Liana Elisa, and we have a German/American background.

Currently, the following names are on our list:
Elysia, Alyssia, Eliora, Liora and Adalyn

We really like the name Liora, but we have concerns about its similarity to our first daughter’s name. What do you think?

In my opinion all names are a bit too close
But Liana and Eliora are cool.

Honestly the only name you have on your list that doesn’t have a resemblance to part of your first daughters name is [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] so THAT gets my vote for that reason.

[name_f]Liana[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] would work better for me than just [name_f]Liora[/name_f]

[name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] is lovely too!!

[name_f]Liora[/name_f] seems a little too close, what about:
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], Laora, [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f]

I definitely feel like [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is way too close, and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] is on the edge - you might be able to get away with it but I personally wouldn’t choose it.

[name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is my favorite, followed by [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f].

Seconding. I think all of them are too close and would lead to confusion, except Adalyn, which is so pretty and goes beautifully with Liana!

Thank you for the fast response. We don’t actually call our daughter [name_u]Elisa[/name_u], just [name_f]Liana[/name_f]. Therefore, [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] wouldn’t be too much of an issue. Since we have a large family, many names like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are already taken.

For me it’s not so much of a “confusion” issue more of a wanting the second daughter to have her own identity without her name seeming like an after thought shadowing of the first daughter’s combination.

[name_f]Liora[/name_f] and [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] definitely feel too close to big sister’s name.
[name_f]Alyssia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], and [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] all sound nice with [name_f]Liana[/name_f]. [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] would get my vote.

As many have pointed out, most of your options very closely resemble your first daughter’s first or middle name. And I get that you don’t call her by her middle, but I would be looking for something that gives your second daughter her own identity. [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] seemed good, until I read your response to another poster about how there’s a [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] in the family.

Other names that come to mind when I read your list:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Adara[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Alayna[/name_f]
[name_f]Alina[/name_f]
[name_f]Camila[/name_f]
[name_f]Carina[/name_f]
[name_u]Dara[/name_u]
[name_f]Ines[/name_f]
[name_f]Irena[/name_f]
[name_f]Justina[/name_f]
[name_f]Kera[/name_f]
[name_f]Lesia[/name_f]
Macayla/Micayla
[name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabatha[/name_f]
[name_u]Tali[/name_u]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Liora[/name_f] is my favourite but agree that it’s quite similar to [name_f]Liana[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Liana[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] sounds a little better, although I don’t love it as much as [name_f]Liora[/name_f]

If this bothers you: [name_f]Elysia[/name_f], [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], [name_f]Liora[/name_f] are all very close to either [name_f]Liana[/name_f] or [name_u]Elisa[/name_u]. [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] is the only one that isn’t, but I dislike its trendy look. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] would be nice.

I would most definitely NOT pick [name_f]Liora[/name_f] unless it’s by far your #1 favorite, because it’s close to [name_f]Liana[/name_f].

I like all of the others, actually (and I like [name_f]Liora[/name_f] too, but it’s too close). [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] might get mispronounced a lot and [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] might get spelled [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], especially in the UK.

Hmmm, let’s see:

[name_f]Liora[/name_f] - too close to [name_f]Liana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliora[/name_f] - okay, but quite close to [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and might become [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] - too trendy, but [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is nice
[name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] - I like it but it looks trendy
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f] - cute but hard to pronounce for some people

[name_f]Elysia[/name_f], I think!

Lyra/Lira is similar to [name_f]Liora[/name_f]! I love the name [name_f]Liana[/name_f] and [name_f]Liora[/name_f] but I think they would be tongue twisters said together.
have you thought of different starting letter for [name_f]Liora[/name_f]?
for example
Diora
Kiora
Siora
Riora

[name_f]Leora[/name_f] is a more different spelling but here are some ideas

Elyra
Eleone (ee-lee-own)
Liore (rhymes with dior)
Adiora
Eliore
Aleana
[name_f]Eleia[/name_f] (ee-lee-yuh)
[name_f]Adoria[/name_f]

also how do you pronounce [name_f]Liora[/name_f]? is it lee-or-uh or lye-or-ruh?

Thank you! We would pronounce it Lee-or-uh

They are all [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f] but I agree they are all very similar. That being said I would say [name_f]Liana[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] are the best choice.

I do think the names are too similar - it’s good to have some coherence but these are too matchy matchy to me, either with the first or second name. I don’t love Adalyn because of the spelling - I’m not quite sure on how it’s supposed to be pronounced - but it is the most distinct so I would pick this of the group, maybe Adalyn Liora. Or Alyssia or Elysia (though the second might trio people) - depending on nicknames. Elysia is pretty!

How about:

Adeline (if line = lyne) or
Ada-Lynne (if it’s a lin ending and you want Ada fully pronounced - so not Addel sound)
Madeleine (if Adalyn is Madeleine without A)
Elisha/Alicia
Amelia
Alessia

Or else:

Hildie
Adelaide (I love this!)
Chiara
Ida
Elspeth
Heidi
Marina
Thea
Sorai
Bianca
Reina/Raina
Estelle
Serena
Tabitha
Nadia
Idamae

Pretty names that go with Liana and translate to American/German context but also don’t have so many of the same letters as Liana - ie the complement but not too matchy/overpowering.

Someone mentioned the name [name_f]Elira[/name_f]. I actually like [name_f]Elira[/name_f] or Elyra. What do you guy’s think?

I like [name_f]Elira[/name_f] - I would spell it [name_f]Elira[/name_f] if you want it E-Lear-ah or Elyra if you want it pronounced, E-Ly-ra.

[name_f]Elvira[/name_f] is also pretty - and means you can have [name_f]Elvie[/name_f] as a nickname.

I do like [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] tho!
