I recently found out I might be pregnant (still in the TWW) but I have been a baby name nerd for a long time.
For the last few years, I’ve always envisioned a little girl named Wren, but lately I’ve been falling in love with Francesca. I do like the nickname Frankie, and I’m sure my family would call her that quite a bit, but I would intend to introduce her to others by her full name.
Also, in case this sways your opinion at all, my last name is a three syllable Italian name beginning with M and ending in O, and I really like the way both names sounds with it, but they have very different vibes. My name is also Catherine, so I like that Wren is sort of a nod to that, but also love the idea of the baby having her own name independent of me.
I actually know one [name_f]British[/name_f] girl in her 20s named [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] who goes by [name_m]Frankie[/name_m] and I have always found it very lovely
I also like [name_f]Wren[/name_f], but I think that [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] will be a more distinct choice as [name_f]Wren[/name_f] is getting a lot more popular at the moment
On the other hand, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] might not be of the same origin but the names still give me very similar vibes
While I do like [name_f]Wren[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is just gorgeous and I think would flow better with the surname (although of course I can’t be too sure!). The nn [name_m]Frankie[/name_m] is cute, but it’s definitely doable for her to go by her full name — I’ve only known one [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], and she went by her full name.
Both names are lovely however my favourite is [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. She’s elegant, full of strength, looks visually pretty, feels timeless and I also really like the nickname [name_m]Frankie[/name_m]. [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Wren[/name_f] would be pretty.
Ooh this is tough as they have such different vibes!
I love the flair and power of [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] - so elegant and sparky, a little bit fussy, a little bit strong, with stylish nn [name_m]Frankie[/name_m].
But [name_f]Wren[/name_f] is so sweet and spunky, fun and quirky but confident and solid too with the soft, outdoorsy vibes and slight unisex feel. I see how it links to [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but plenty of people won’t so I don’t feel as if she’s not getting a name of her own (a bit different to if your name was [name_f]Renata[/name_f] or Renee)
I think [name_f]Wren[/name_f] just wins for me, but they are both lovely
I think you could maybe make [name_f]Wren[/name_f] work as a nickname for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] and get both, the ‘ran’ part sounds really close to [name_f]Wren[/name_f].
I voted [name_f]Wren[/name_f]! I like the tie to your own name, but I also like [name_f]Wren[/name_f] more than [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] myself; I’m not a big fan of the [name_m]Frank[/name_m] family of names, unfortunately. [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is beautiful, though, and probably my favorite of the bunch. I admittedly love the appeal of [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] with a cool Italian surname, but went with [name_f]Wren[/name_f] in the end as I love her so much. Sounds like she’s been in your heart a little longer, too.
This is really difficult as they’re both so different and I like both.
Pluses for [name_f]Wren[/name_f] - it’s had your heart a long time, the tie to your own name, it’s short and distinct, no pronunciation issues, can’t be shortened. I actually think I prefer this with your surname - It’s more unexpected and truncated paired with a 3 syllable flowy Italian name, and will feel fresh and clipped next to the surname’s ornateness.
Pluses for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] - it’s beautiful, no prn issues, sweet on a little one yet elegant on a lady, familiar yet not common, nn potential, more traditional but not dusty.
I really like both. [name_f]Wren[/name_f] as a name is definitely modern and trendy and having a bit of a moment - some may find this off-putting. [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is more classic, but does it pull your heart the same way?
Unless you already have middle slots filled, they pair wonderfully as first and middle (in whichever order), because of the contrast in length.
