We are an interfaith family [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and Jewish. Our daughter will grow up going to Hebrew school and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] school and celebrating holidays in both faiths. Which names in our list fits this girl?
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f] (care-uh)
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (peace, olive tree) symbol of both our faiths
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
Thank you!
Interestingly, I come from a similar background, half [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and half Jewish, but I grew up going to neither school and celebrating only the big holidays. That said, I don’t know religious connotations associated with any of the names, so I’m just picking the names I like!
I like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is nice, but so popular that people wouldn’t appreciate the meaning behind it.
I sort of like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] as a FN / MN combo. Also like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] & [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
I think all of them would be lovely! I’m always on the look out for names that will honor both [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and Jewish faiths, since my best friend was a [name_m]French[/name_m] Jew and I’m a [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. My two favorite options (so far) are [name_f]Esther[/name_f] (both the holiday of Purim, and both [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and I loved the story of [name_f]Esther[/name_f]) and Pasqualina (or any [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]- name, I suppose, but Pasqualina is my favorite!), since the root of the name, pasqua (I think?), means both Passover and [name_f]Easter[/name_f]. From your list, I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] the best. I might leave out [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] (unless you have another name that overtly honors a Jewish holiday?) since it means “[name_m]Christ[/name_m]'s birth”. In general, my three favorites are [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f], I think. All your options are beautiful, though!
It might be easier to pick a name with strong ties to both faiths (like [name_f]Anna[/name_f]?) or with no overt ties to either faith (like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_f]Cara[/name_f]?), but I lovelovelove [name_f]Grace[/name_f], too, and the idea of grace I know is strong in Christianity, and I assume Judaism, as well, but I don’t have as firm a grasp on Judaism as Christianity.
Good luck!
